Be Attitudes

I hope all of you enjoyed your Sabbath day worship. I know I did. I was moved, touched, and inspired in so many different ways. I love it when Sunday worship is that way.

Our Sunday School lesson was really good. I don't know if that is because it was the only place I did not teach/speak or if it was the lesson itself. The more we talked and discussed the individual verses of the Sermon on the Mount the more my mind was opened.

We truly need to BE these things. I started thinking about the account of Zeniff, which I have been reading lately. It makes me wonder about this group of people. Then again, I guess it really applies to several groups of people in the scriptures. The city of Zion. The followers of Alma the Elder. The converts that were taught by Ammon. The Nephites after Christ's visit to the Americas. The people of the eastern hemisphere after Christ's death and resurrection. The saint in church history.

All of these groups had to become unified. They had to change their attitudes towards each other and their way of life. Each person had a change of heart that allowed them or inspired them to live and be the attitudes described in this sermon.

Are we that kind of people? Are we that type of person? Do these characteristics exist in our families? What about our neighborhoods, wards, stakes, regions,...etc.? I have thought about that more and more as I have re-read the account of Zeniff. They were all humbled by persecution. War changed their perspective of life. Suddenly, it appears that what they valued most in life was the same as their neighbor. They unified and became one in purpose.

Do we need to be humbled or can we make the changes ourselves? I hope we can make the changes. I know I want to try and make the move. It is not easy, but maybe we can do it together.

If you have not read the lesson, did not attend Sunday School this week, or need something to read, I would encourage you to study, not just read, but study the Sermon on the Mount again this week. Look for ways you can apply it to your life today.
