Framed Cement
My mind has been reeling the past few days. I am overflowing with thoughts and ideas. I have to get started a little early on this weeks message. The more I think about it the more I am able to put last weeks Sunday School lesson and this weeks scripture together a little. This weeks scripture JST John 1:1-3. Key thoughts, the Gospel was preached through the Son. The Gospel was the Word. The Word was with the Son or the Gospel was with the Son. The Son was with and of God. That being said all things were made by Him.
Think about that as we move forward.
I am not sure I will be able to get all my thoughts into this weeks message. There are just too many to put in one blog. I will start with our focus of Sunday School. Heleman 5:12
Ok let's start. Christ, the Son, is the rock upon which we should build our foundation. He is a foundation, but not the only foundation we need to build. We need to build our own foundation upon Him. Referring back to John, the Gospel. However, we each need to build our own personal foundation, a place to hold our mansions on high.
We focused a great deal on the idea of a foundation. What goes into making a foundation? What makes it strong? How deep does it need to be? How wide? How long? What materials are needed to make the foundation? How do we care for it? So many questions. See, I could go on forever. But let's start with some basics.
Most people told us that we need a good solid ground to put our foundation. That is Christ. Then we need to know what is going to be build on our foundation. This is serious question. What we build will determine how deep, wide, long, and strong our foundation needs to be. It will tell us what materials we need to use.
My question is then posed? Are you thinking of a temporal structure or an eternal structure? What kind of foundation do you need or want?
When most people think of foundations they think of Cement. What is Cement? How much do you need? Is Cement by itself enough? I think that will be enough to think about this week.
Cement - a combination of calcined lime and clay that is ground to a powder form. When combined or mixed with Water, it becomes a binding compound that will hold things together and eventually harden.
Have you ever mixed Cement, by itself with water? (No sand, no gravel, no rods, wire, or iron) Does it hold a form by itself? Does it harden? Is it strong? Would you want to build a mansion on top of it?
Cement is the binding compound. Alone it is not enough. It needs Water and something to bind mixed with it. So Cement is not enough. Cement is like the Gospel. It helps bind our foundation, but is not the only think we need.
When Cement is went, it is messing, runny, and weak. By itself, if poured, will just spread until it can spread no more. It will be come a thin, brittle crust that is easily broken. In order for our foundation to be strong, it must be deep or thick. Hence when making our foundations, we need to have boundaries, a frame, a mold, or something of that sort. Even when Christ had the Gospel preached through Him, where He made all things that were bound together, He had to have a form, a pattern, a boundary, or frame of sorts. This allows the foundation to be thicker, stronger, and more stable.
I would see that frame or boundary as the Priesthood. It is the power to hold all things together. Today we have Priesthood leaders who govern those boundaries to help us form our own foundations.
Are you following the guidelines of this framework? Are you trusting in the Priesthood leadership who has been given stewardship over you? Do you have the right mix of Cement in your life? Do you know how big you want or need your foundation to be? Is your trust and obedience to the Priesthood frame work deep enough for such a foundation that you envision building upon? If not, what are you doing about it?
Ok, there are the start of my thoughts. More to follow in the weeks to come...
The week was pretty good. The weather has been kind of crazy this week. Tornado touched down the first day of fall north of us and 7 funnels were seen south of us the following day. Many loved ones to the north were without power for a while. We are glad all are safe.
The Queen had to go back on the phones this week. I am not sure if she was happy about it or not. She was able to do a great deal more with her projects that way, but I know that there was a new training initative sent to her and printed late in the week. Today has been emotional for her as she was released and sustained in a new calling. We will make it work and make it enjoyable.
The Professor went back to the classroom on Friday. The kids join her tomorrow. She really enjoyed the time off. She accomplished a great deal, but commented that she still has so much more to do. 9 weeks until the next one.
Tall Man has been in and out. I know there was a job interview and hours worked, but he is heavy into rehearsals and focused on the job hunt. We didn't hear much from Ehl-Bo, but know she is working hard and adding new creations to her Etsy Store on a regular basis. I had the opportunity to see some of her artwork at the house last weekend. Very impressive stuff.
Songbird and I exchanged texted a few times this week. We were excited to hear that she got her license and a new picture. Disappointed that they would not let her do a SnackPack smile. She is busy with school and on the hunt for employment as well. We will keep our ear and eyes open for opportunities in the area. We are glad that she keeps us updated for her SnackPack, but know that she probably gets more communication from him than we do. We are living with it.
That is about it on our end. Stay dry. Stay warm. Work Hard, Pray Hard, and let Him do the rest.
Think about that as we move forward.
