Seeking to Receive
Happy Christmas Adam!
Tis the night before the night before Christmas and all through the neighborhood, all the neighbor gifts have been delivered. Have you ever wondered about that tradition? Why do we send good will to those around you? How to you choose who to visit and who not to visit? Have you ever wondered about offending someone? I know that I have.
Today in Sacrament, I learned that it is not about whether you get something but whether you receive something. As that thought has marinated the past few hours and I have gone out spreading our good will gifts, I realize that I have received more from giving that I have from getting from those who come to my door. I have also come to realize that it because of my choice to receive from giving that I am able to receive more that the little plate of sweets will ever give.
But that is not what I was pondering this week. This week's verses come from the end of section 76. I have truly enjoyed studying, pondering, and applying the messages of this section. I hope you have received a little for yourselves.
D&C 76:117-119
"To whom he grants this privilege of seeing and knowing for themselves;"
"That through the power and manifestation of the Spirit, while in the flesh, they may be able to bear his presence in the world of glory."
"And to God and the Lamb be glory, and honor, and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
On this Christmas Adam, I am again reminded of the importance of earning this privilege. He does not reveal to us that which we do not desire. We may say we desire, but deep down, do we really?
My thoughts are taken to John 1:38 "Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?"
Luke 2:15-16
"...the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us."
"And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger."
Matthew 2:1-2
"Now when Jesus was born, in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the King, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,"
"Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."
How many have asked "Where dwellest thou?" Once we receive witness of Him, do we seek Him as the shepherd or wise men? Do we wait upon Him as Simeon? (Luke 2:25-34)
The invitation to them then, is the same for us today. John 1:39 "...Come and see...."
Over and over again we says, "Come Follow Me".
Are you seeking Him?
Our week -
Well, it has been a week. The Queen continues the battle the cough. To quote Monty Python, "She is gettin better". Her voice returned late Tuesday morning. She spent the week trying to put final touches on all things Holiday. Even at this moment she is working hard to finish another thing.
The Professor filled her week with appointments, meetings, finalizing Holiday things, and more. She had to return to the classroom on Friday as a prep to the first day back in the New Year.
Tall Man and Ehl-Bo have been battling "The Bug". It is not the same bug the Queen, the Professor, or even Lady Hawkins have been battling, but it was a bug none the less. We were able to get together on Saturday and celebrate her birthday.
Puddin and Lady Hawkins have been trying to fill their free time from school with busy time at work and finalizing all things Holiday. It has been to have them in and out this week.
SnackPack came to live with us for a couple weeks. We know it was really to be closer to Song Bird, as she has moved home for the couple weeks between semesters, but we will take it. It has been fun to have both of them in and out of the house the past few days.
The weather person says the white stuff is on its way. Stay warm. Drive Safe. Remember who you are.
