What have you planted lately?
Joyous Sabbath!
I hope you have been able to stay dry this week. The weather patterns have been crazy lately, even in my small neck of the woods.
This week, I found that I had cut my pondering pattern off at an unusual place in the chapter I have been going through.
Alma 32:29-30
"Now behold, would not this increase your faith? I say unto you, Yea; nevertheless it hath not grown up to a perfect knowledge."
"But behold, as the seed swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, then you must needs say that the seed is good; for behold it swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow. And now, behold will not this strengthen your faith? Yea, it will strengthen your faith: for ye will say I know that this is a good seed; for behold it sprouteth and beginneth to grow."
When I started pondering this week, I read verse 29 and started chastising myself for breaking the verses up the way I did, completely unintentional. When you read verse 29 by itself, if you had never read/studied/ or pondered chapter 32, it would leave you with more questions than answers.
However, after a bit, I decided to go with those questions. Where would they lead me.
What would increase my faith?
Have you asked yourself this question? When was the last time something did increase your faith? Have you exercised long enough recently to see something grow? Have you worked with it beyond swelling, sprouting, or beginning to grow?
Note that Alma only speaks of these three phases of growing something. There is so much more. Have you taken anything to full fruit and tasted of it's deliciousness?
I have had to ask myself this question this week? What have I don't to strengthen my faith, in anything. Do I have faith in who I am as an eternal heir of Godly parents? Am I exercising the powers, talents, resources that come with such inheritance?
What about my family? Have I put faith in them? Exercised faith with them? Helped them exercise faith in themselves?
Does this faith carry over into my work place, school work, church calling or more?
How about you?
What seeds are you planting? Are you planting more than one? Do you understand that some seeds will bare fruit quickly, like a carrot, lettuce, or squash? But then there are others that will take much longer. If you were to plant the seed of a peach, cherry, or an orange, it would take several years before you would see or taste of the fruit. All of them take time and effort.
What seeds are you exercising your faith in currently in life? Are you giving them the appropriate time and effort? Do you have too many seeds planted? Is your garden something you can manage or is it overwhelming?
Alma tells us to start with one seed at a time. As our faith swells, sprouts, and grows, we gain knowledge, not complete knowledge, but some. It is then that we can plant another and so forth and so on.
Ask the questions! Exercise the faith of planting! Find the strength to endure!
Our week -
It has been quiet. School is in full swing for many. Work has been steady, regular, and even sometimes mundane. Finding the will and strength to endure that which is upon our shoulders has presented itself to be challenging. But we we keep going forward.
The Queen continues juggling project after project. When she accomplishes one, she starts another. She inspires me.
The Professor is working on new routines. She is learning to adapt to a new mindset of students and a different pattern of school year.
Tall Man is busy juggling work and school. Ehl-Bo is busy juggling various commissions and Lego. Lego is just living the dream.
Puddin was able to spend long hours at the state fair. Still not what it is cracked up to be. Lady Hawkins is juggling school and work. I don't know where she finds time to do it all.
SnackPack returned from his weekend adventure early Monday morning, only to start another as soon as he woke up. Work has been up and down this week. He is adjusting to the new routines.
We have enjoyed opportunities to catch up with friends and family this week. We look forward to new adventures in the week to come.
