Make it more than just a Memorial
Happy Memorial Day!
I know I am a little late in posting, but I have had a hard time finding a location with a decent wireless connection that will allow me to post. The Queen and I decided to make this week an adventure. We spent the past few days making memories, so we are going to continue with the tradition. But, before I start, let's take a moment to ponder...
As many of you know, the Queen and I work from home. Currently, we both work a desk/function that is a little under staffed in our company's eyes. I understand it too a point some days, but for the most part it just does not seem that the company is doing all it can to fix the challenge. I know we will not hire people off the streets, but there have been many suggestions to correct the issue, but none seem to be working.
Any who, due to the under staffing, each morning we generally get a phone call between 6 and 630 a.m. notifying us that the company is offering overtime for all agents qualified to work this function. By the way, when you change time zones, the call comes an hour earlier. We learned that the past couple of days as we started our adventure. It gets to be annoying to say the least.
However, last Monday, neither one of us really wanted to get out of bed. It had been a long weekend, we were tired, and we wanted to just forget about work and sleep in. Remember that the Queen has to be to work at 630 a.m., so we probably should have been getting up.
Right at 6, the phone started ringing. Neither one of us moved. After the 5th ring, I asked the Queen if she was going to check. Half awake and half asleep, she slurred something like, "It is just the OT call." To which I replied, "What if it isn't?"
We have become so neutralized by this call each morning that if there was an emergency and someone was trying to reach us, we would both blow it off. I have been pondering that thought all week. How many other things are there in life that have become so routine, that I really don't give them the attention, remembrance, or due justice they deserve? The words of last weeks scripture came to mind, "...they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof."
Am I any different? Is there more that I should be doing? Do I truly understand the power thereof? How about you? Here is my food for thought. Are we truly drawing near unto Him? or are we just doing lip service?
As we celebrate the memories of those fallen and past, I suggest we also take time to remember Him. Not only today, but always. He has given us a path to follow. It is not an easy path. It requires effort, attention, and commitment.
OK, on with the week.
I spent the week in meetings and entertaining co-workers from Hawaii this week. They were in town for three of five days this week. It made for long hours, late nights, and lots of sitting. I found myself looking for excuses to get up and move. If something needed to be picked up, I was on it. If something was forgotten, I was on it. Unfortunately, one of my dear friends and co-workers found out that his mother has passed away. I volunteered to cover him as he had a large part in the presentations that were given throughout the long meetings. It felt good to be able to help, but kind of tied me to the meetings.
The Queen counted down the days with great anticipation. We did not see much of each other as she was home-bound without out a car, and I was out early and home late. But the light could be seen. Friday, the first day of our vacation, could not come fast enough.
The Professor muddled through the routine. She had some successes and some frustrations, but made it all the same.
Tall Man has been busy working. He had a late week of training. Today, he started his new routine. We hope it goes well. He also made a quick trip to Garden Valley to visit friends. It sounded like it was a good weekend.
SnackPack has retired his Cap and Gown. His week was filled with closure and then celebrated as he made that short walk from the podium seat, to the diploma, back to the podium seat, but he made the walk. A milestone has been reached. He spent the evening with friends and was up bright and early for his last choir tour. We hope it is going well.
Once we had him dropped off, the Queen and I started planning our adventure. As it turned out, we were worried that if we waited, we would not make it out of town, so we started thinking outside the box, packed our bags, and jumped on a plane. We visited a few small towns that we had never visited together and may not do so again for a while. We ended up flying to Palm Springs, driving through the late night hours looking for a hotel, and sleeping in a small town dive of Yucca Valley.
The adventure continues...
