Reminders of Mortality
Howdee,
I know that I should have been pondering a verse or two this week, but I just could not get my head wrapped around it. I referred to a specific thought, but never really moved with anything. My head has been elsewhere I guess.
Not that any of you are interested, but I am going to share it anyway.
We took a little trip this week. We had the opportunity to see different parts of the world, different people in the world, and a whole bunch of strange from this world we call home. I guess that is where my head has been. Let me see if I can bring it into focus.
First, we were visited a week or so ago by Polo13. He looked good, sounded good, but we knew there was a whole lot of other stuff going on in his head. We had the opportunity to hear him report on his experiences today. We were reminded that we sometimes get too caught up in First World problems. He has spent the last several months wondering where food was going to come from, not only for himself, but those he was serving. He slept on the floor most of the time. He hardly ever had shoes. He learned that a piece of twine was just as useful as a nice leather belt. He said that church was different. He has gotten use to chasing wild dogs away from the meeting area vs. wondering if the A/C or Heating was set at the right level. It was interesting to watch him carve up some Jack Fruit after the meeting. He has become very handy with a large knife. He said he would have been more comfortable with a machete, but his Mom would not let him bring it up.
Then we left for a long weekend in the South. We each had our own rooms, a nice kitchen, transportation, and more. The beds we slept in were clean. The living space was safe. The food was plentiful and fresh.
On Monday, a major storm hit the East. We were a little concerned about how we were going to hook up with the Professor, but after some creative routings, we were able meet up in the wee hours of the night. This time we were further South.
For the next several days, we drove through the flat lands. We were guided through some pretty rough residential areas. We saw some pretty sketchy living environments. Then we walked into a local grocer and notice that the state lotto was up to $123M.
This is where my mind has been since. As we sat down to dinner, we played a little "What If" game. It was a good conversation. We each shared our thoughts or the formation of thoughts. "What would we do with that much money?"
Thursday morning, we found ourselves sitting in the Lord's house and I was reminded of how the world perceives money. My thoughts did not change a great deal, but rather they evolved a little more.
Finally, we enjoyed words of instruction from our chosen leaders this weekend in Stake Conference. How much do I take what I have for granted? Am I using all the amazing gifts, resources, and talents I have been given appropriately? How can I repent from those times that I am not? Am I recognizing His hand fully in my life?
I encourage you to take a moment to reflect upon all that you have seen, all that you have been given, all that you are able to experience, and asking yourself, "What have you learned?" "Are you raising the line?" "Is there more that you can or could do?" I know that I am.
So there you go.
As you can tell, the Queen and I have been on the road. Last week we spent the weekend with Tall Man, Ehl-Bo, Puddin, and Lady Hawkins. Monday we did a little divide and conquer before hooking up with the Professor.
The Professor returned from her world travels in Europe to meet up with us in the South. We marked off another one of her bucket list items by visiting the Silos.
Tall Man and Ehl-Bo returned to the grind. We heard early in the week and Ehl-Bo has been granted an employment opportunity. We were excited to share the news. It also sounds like they are fully engaged in rehearsals.
Puddin made a large purchase this week and returned to the grind so that he can afford to pay for it. We were glad to find him alive when we returned from our adventures.
SnackPack officially moved to the next milestone. He started his final year as a teenager. Just a shout out to him this week. He is always in our thoughts, but especially this week.
I hope your week has been enjoyable.
