Do These Things...

Good Evening,

I am not sure how long this post will be this evening, but since some you don't read the pondering part anyway, I am sure you will be ok with it.

Last week, I asked you to add Sister Oscarson's talk to your weekly study.  My thoughts of scripture pondering go right along with her comments.  3 Nephi 27:22-26.

Now let me give a little context or content of my week.  I have already shared this with a couple of you, so bear with me.  I am trying to follow verse 23.

As many of you know, we have been traveling a little bit the past few weeks.  This week I found myself headed to the airport after a very long day.  I was tired.  I was ready to sleep in my own bed.  Just as I arrived at the airport, I was advised that my flight would be delayed due to a late arriving aircraft.  It happens, so I did not let it bother too much.

After a lengthy 2 hour delay, our flight arrived, deplaned and started boarded.  It was a smaller aircraft with not much space for extras.  It was not long before I realized that everyone else on the flight was probably just as tired and anxious to arrive at their destination as I was.

When my time to board came, I shuffled down the aisle looking for a space to place my luggage.  I could see a spot that was just behind the row I was sitting.  However, when I looked closer, I could see that another customer has laid his suit jacket nicely across the bottom of the bin and then neatly folded his scarf on top of it.  I knew who it belonged too since it was such a brightly colored scarf and I had watched him board moments before me.

I turn to the gentleman and ask if I could remove his jacket, place my bag in the overhead, and then lay his jacket and scarf on top of my bag.  He response short as curt, "as long as you do damage or wrinkle my jacket."  I tried to politely inform him that I would do my best, but reminded him that the bin was for luggage, not jackets.

Without hesitation he shouted, "then don't touch my belongings.  I was here first."  SERIOUSLY.  That is what my eyes were saying as I glared at him.

Before I could really say what I wanted to say, another passenger, several rows back, said. "Sir, I just ski jackets in the over head.  You can put your back here and then we can stuff them around your bag."

He was traveling his family.  Together we stuffed several jackets around my bag and then I fought my way up stream against the flow of passengers to get to my seat.

I seriously spent most of the flight asking my Father in Heaven for help to let go of the anger and frustration I was feeling towards the scarf man.  I was so letting him get to me.

When we landed, I did not rush to get up.  I knew I had to let several people deplane before I could work my way back to my bag.  Then to my surprise, the gentleman who had volunteered the space was suddenly standing in front of me, WITH MY BAG!  He totally did not have to do that.

I was humbled.  I vowed that I would do better to see the needs of those around me.  This was not a seriously big need, but oh how it made my evening.  I was suddenly filled with so much light.  I offered this gentleman a ride to where ever he was going with his family.  He declined.

To top my evening off, the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to help another customer who was trying wrangle 2 large suitcases, a roller bag, and a couple shoulder bags, by herself.  As I offered to help and then did so, the light within me glowed.

"Therefore, if ye do the these things blessed are ye, for ye shall be lifted up at the last day."

Oh how true this was for me.

I encourage you to follow this admonition.  Listen to the words of Sister Oscarson.  Record the events, record the works of those things you see.  Be a light.  The need is there in the simplest of forms, but they mean so much.  Of this, I am a witness.

Our week -

It has been kind a crazy.

The Queen and I were out and about again this week.  Doing different things, but close together as much as we could be.  Unfortunately, she came home a little worse for wear.  We have visited the doctor a couple times and hope that she is now on the mend.

The Professor was on the up swing and seemed to be feeling and doing so much better.  Then this afternoon, she started feeling lousy again.  There is something in the air.  I hope that I don't get it.

Tall Man and Ehl-Bo are doing well.  They are both busy with work, school, and lots of extra curricular.

Puddin or Crazy Man and Lady Hawkins dropped in for a small millisecond.  They are also working hard, studying hard, and love spending time together.

We are glad they are all safe and moving forward.
