Reaction or Action - How do we humbly respond

What a wonderful day to be waking up!  My body is letting me know that I am still alive.  It was great to be able to help out yesterday in so many ways, but man I am getting old and my body is letting me know it.

How are you feeling?  What is bouncing around in your thoughts this morning, day, week?  I hope it is all good.

My pondering this week has been mixed in with a lot of busy, busy, busy.  However, I am so grateful for the moments of reflection I take each day to figure out where I am, where I should be, and how I am doing getting there.  My verse of pondering this week have reminded me of this.

Alma 32:8

"I behold that ye are lowly in heart; and if so, blessed are ye."

Try and put yourself in this verse.  If you had gone to someone with a question and they responded, "I behold that ye are lowly in heart;..." How would you respond

I can see that in today's world and even in the time of Alma, it would be easy to take offense, get our feathers all ruffled, stop listening to what this person was saying, and create a wall between him and us with fabricated thoughts about what we think he was saying or thinking about us because of the comment.

How many of us do this in our work place when an observation is made about us, good or bad?  How many of us do this when the Prophet or an Apostle give us counsel?  What about a church leader, ministering brother/sister, neighbor, and/or family member?

It is an easy trap to fall into.  It is a destructive trap.  We must be caution.

Let's not be offended and listen to the rest of his words, "... and if so, blessed are ye."

As I ponder these few words I am reminded again how important it is not only to reflect on where we are, where we want to be, where we should be, and what we are doing to make sure both match and we are doing something to get us in the right direction.

I have learned that it is important to be "lowly in heart".  There are times that we cannot do it all.  There are times that we do  no see everything from different perspectives because we are caught up in the moment.  It is this times that we need to reach out to others for help.  Again, not the easiest thing to do.

When we do reach out, we need to be open to hearing and doing things that are not always comfortable.  Sometimes we will find ourselves in vulnerable situations of disclosure, repentance/change, weakness, and having to get help to become someone better.

That is OK, as long as those actions are getting us closer to God and not further away.

So when do these moments of reflection happen?  Every day, every day, every day.  We do it on our knees when we go before the Lord in reflection of these things.  We do every day when we read the scriptures.  Some times it happens around the dinner table with a family council or even a family home evening.  There are times, that we realize we need to go to a priesthood authority for counsel, guidance and direction.  But if we are doing it every day, we are less likely to find ourselves taking offense, because we recognize how good it feels to improve individually and at times with help.

Our week -

It has been  a busy one.  Work is crazy busy right now and I have found myself involved in several good meetings outside of work.  I am grateful for the prayers that have been answered personally for me.

The Queen is amazing.  She is always doing something or thinking of something she should be doing and chipping away at them little by little, no matter how challenging or painful it is.  But what I observed this week is that she will always be the Mother of our children.  I love it.

The Professor is in close out mode.  Every day is getting one step closer to closing the school year down.  She has spent a great deal of time prepping for next year and some of the new responsibilities she has accepted.

Tall Man is loving work.  We had the opportunity to catch up yesterday and spend some quality time sharing, discussing, planning, and growing.  Ehl-Bo is counting the days for Leo to arrive.  It is getting hotter outside and in.  Sleep is not easily obtained, but she is enduring.

Puddin and Lady Hawkins officially became home owners this week.  It was great to get together yesterday and help them move in.  Puddin is grateful not to have to do the long commute everyday, and Lady Hawkins is not in full school prep and job hunting mode.

SnackPack knows how to make the most of every moment of his day.  His schedule is mind boggling, but full of amazing adventures.  We have really enjoyed having him share each night when he comes home.
