I have been called...How about you?
I woke up this morning and thought, "Wow, is it Sunday already?" Seriously, it some days just seem to fly by, then others drag like cold molasses, but it is Sunday, again.
My mind has been filled with thoughts of this week's lessons in Sunday School and Priesthood. I was teaching Priesthood, so I thought a great deal about it. I have learned that the Lord wants me to repent. It seemed to be an interesting topic for a group of "Old" men who have been going to church for a very long time. When I asked the group to list the steps or process of repentance, the first thing that I was told was, "Recognize you have done something wrong." I stopped right there and and asked why I am teaching this lesson, Have any of you committed major sin this week? I think this is one of our major misconceptions. Repentance is not about getting rid of wrongs, but really about changing for something better. Each of us can do something better. Each of our betters may be different, but we may need to change none the less. Not because we are bad, but because we are striving to become more like Christ.
As I studied the lessons I realized that we are all on a team, the most basic and grand team - Family. Whether we are talking about our intimate, immediate, family of friends, ward, stake, church, or heavenly, we are a family. As "Members" of this team, we should be doing our part.
Individually, we should be taking care of our person to be the best contributing member to the team we can be. We should be eating(feasting), learning(seeking), exercising(living) the best we can physically(spiritually). We should be going to practice(church - and all activities that it included). We should be willing to be coached(whisperings, revelations, and leaders counsel). We need to share our strengths with other team members and allow them to share theirs. We need to be in the game. We need to want to be in the game. We need to be ready to be called upon at any time to get in the game.
As I pondered the thoughts of Sunday School lesson (Matthew 13), I realized that for some, eating, learning, exercising are not as easy as it is for others. Some don't know when or when practices is. Heck, they don't even know what to practice or why. They are constantly being picked at by distractions of the world. The rocky soil needs to be cleared so they can see around the obstacles. Others need help weeding their plot of land so they can sink their roots in deep. They need someone to silence the cawing of the crows(minions) picking at the seeds so they can recognize why and how their plot can and needs to be plowed, fertilized, planted, and nurtured. We need to work together as a Team.
The Lord has told me, I need to repent. It does not happen overnight, but line upon line, precept upon precept. I will continue to change.
That being said, it has been a good week.
I spent a few days being tempted to explore more of Texas. I had meetings in Houston for a couple days and was asked several times if I was actually going to attend the meetings or make a side trip further southwest. I was good and attended meetings. I enjoyed a good bout of Spring rain.
On Saturday, the Queen, Professor, Cookie, SnackPack and I took a road trip north to Logan. It was a good day. SnackPack had a game, which was brutal. We keep hoping that there will be one season of Polo where his team has the same man in the cage. This year we have a kid who has never even played the game. It does not take long for the opposing team to recognize it. It is frustrating to watch and even more frustrating to play.
The Queen, Professor and I thought it would be fun to kill two birds with one stone. We chose to attend the temple during the JV and girls game. It was a great experiences, but crazy busy. We almost missed the boys game.
After the game, we satisfied our hungers, looked for inspired quilting patterns, and laughed. It was fun.
Tall Man was invited, but he chose to stay home because he did not have two socks. He made wise choices and cleaned his room, washed some clothes, and got his bike up and running. Then he took her out for a spin. He was happy to start having therapy sessions again.
The week as been pretty much normal. We get up, we go to work and school. We come home and eat on the run before fulfilling our various callings, then to bed and start over.
It looks like the week to come will have a few extras thrown in, but that is what we do.
I don't know how we do it every year, but the boys(ward) made it to regions again. We always seem to pull it out at the last minute. As is par for the course, someone always get injured or has a seizure just before we get there. We did not have a seizure this year, but it looks like Taaga broke the arch of his foot. He will be out for quite some time. I guess he has surgery this week. We thought we were going to get forfeit the first game, but the other team showed up at the last minute and gave us a run for the money. Unfortunately, Saturday's game was not well attended. Taaga had surgery, Keener had to work, and SnackPack was getting wet up north. They ended up playing the Spencer Ridge 16th ward. Being down three, the remaining team players were no match for the 7 foot centers the 16th plants in the key.
We hope and pray your week as been better than the last. If not, you attempt it again this week. Look for the good, be the good, and make good things happen.
