Yep, another one
It has been a relatively quiet week. I would not say completely boring, but in the brink. As I look back upon it, I am wondering what has taken up so much of my time. I guess it is just life and the surprises thereof. It has been a good week.
So, what has been on my mind? I guess I an interview I listened to last weekend. In this interview, questions arose about this interviewee's faith and where they were going next. One of the comments that stuck out in my mind was that this person now truly believes that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a cult. The first thing that came to mind was: Seriously? How many times have we heard that? When people say it, it sounds so dark and uninviting, but really do they truly understand the meaning of the word?
Let's take a look:
Cult - a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object.
Cult - a relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister.
When I read these definitions, I guess I would have to agree with this interviewer, well except for the sinister part. Then on the flip side, name one religious group out there who is not a cult? What seems strange to one may not be strange to another. Yet we all have our own little quirks right?
I like to believe that my devotion is directed to Jesus Christ. How many times have you been to a sporting event and seen John 3:16 published some where by someone? I often wonder if that person is showing their devotion to Jesus Christ as the verse states or if they are in some way saying that they believe in the said team or team member. By being there, they showing their religious devotion to said group or individual. Sounds kind of cultish to me.
Think about it though. There are a great number of people who, though not an organized religion do give religious homage to various groups. I started with sports. But what about political parties, seasons of the year, acts of nature, places of employments, clubs, movies, TV show, or such. Are not some of the practices of these people kind of cultish. My Heck, have you seen what happens at a Comic-con?
So, YES. I belong to a cult. I am doing all I can to direct my devotions to Jesus Christ. One of my paths of doing so is through the a group called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is not the only one, but it is one. It is through this organization that I hope to learn how to fashion my life more closely to one person - Jesus Christ. To some, my actions may be appear to be strange, but it is what brings me joy. Am I perfect at it? Nope. Do I respect others for doing the same? I do my best. Their path or vision of doing so may be different than mine. Their practices may seem strange. And like any other fan, I am trying to share my joy and excitement to entice them to jump on a bandwagon and seek the same, rally for the same team, seek the same joy and excitement. So the next time you are asked, yep, except for the sinister part.
On with the week, the boring kind of mundane week.
The Queen and I worked. When we were not working, we were shopping for food, making dinner, fulfilling our callings, watching games, helping children move, and/or thinking about the bathroom upstairs. We did make some head way and purchased tile. Now it has to be cut and installed. It is on the list.
The Professor spent a lot of time just doing home work. She did get out a couple of times, but I remember a great deal of home work and vegging from the home work load.
Tall Man tried out for a play, moved home, and started another chapter in life. He spends a great deal of time on his phone, but cannot figure out why it is running down. Congrats are in order. I am excited to see where he goes with this one.
SnackPack did all he could to balance the crazy life events he has immersed himself in. It was a short week as school, so coach decided to have the team do Black Beard's Challenge. I don't know where he gets his energy to do it all. But, Fall Polo is over and now it is on to work and Christmas music performances. I guess we will have to get through Veteran's Day first.
Crazy, Crazy week, but well worth it. Shout out to Elder Puddin. Hope he had a great day on Thursday! We were happy to see him tasting the rainbow. It was fun. We love those who share their moments with him.
