Needs to be a Priority
Here we are again, wrapping up another week for some and starting another for the rest. I hope that either brings or has been filled with joy.
The week here was just a normal week. We did what we could to fill it with adventure. As I sit here and ponder the happenings of the week, my mind is filled with one word - Priority.
I have been pondering the last few verses of 2 Nephi 2. For family night, we watched a devotional talk that was recommended in our combined meetings last week, Amy Petersen Jensen, March of 2012. That with our discussion of the combined meeting, articles in the New ERA, Friend, and Ensign have just been swirling round in my head. It really was all summed up for me as I pondered the words of Lehi to his sons.
Verse 28 - "...I would that ye should look to the great Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments;..."
What should be our Priority - Jesus Christ. If we put Him first in our lives, the rest will fall into place. It is not always easy. What followed in verse 28, "...be faithful unto his words, and choose eternal life,..." that can be challenging in the world we live in. Almost everything we do points in the opposite direction. It is so easy to let the things of the world distract us.
It gave me reason to re-evaluate my routines in life. I must admit, my routine has changed. It has been hard to not let life get in the way. I seem to have work, work, and more work filling my thoughts. I have a different responsibility and schedule. I have to make Him a priority in my life. It requires that kneel before I look at email, sign into the computer, or think about such. It has not been easy. I have found myself sitting at my desk and thinking, "Crap, I haven't prayed this morning."
Prayer - needs to be a priority.
With the change to my routine, I don't always work out before work, hence I don't listen to or read conference talks at the beginning of my day. When I get off work, I don't always feel like working out, but I have to make it a priority, hence I get in my daily conference.
Words of Living Prophets - needs to be a priority.
I don't work late on Tuesdays any more. That was a great time to go to the temple. I have had to make adjustments to my routine. I am grateful that the Queen has reminded me each weekend that it should be a priority. We have been going on Saturdays. We may find ourselves going in the evenings during the week, it all depends on the priority.
Attending the Temple - needs to be a priority.
One of the hardest things is reading scriptures after work. I have to battle to keep my eyes open. Additionally, it is sometimes easier to just open a social media page and let my mind be numbed with mindless posts and videos. I have had to make reading scriptures a priority.
Reading the Scriptures - needs to be a priority.
The list goes on and on. Preparing for Sunday School, Priesthood, and Relief Society - needs to be a priority. Making visits, fulfilling callings, having FHE, spending time with family, reading and discussing the gospel of Jesus Christ - needs to be a priority.
Honestly, I have learned that if I put these things first, put Him first, the rest that I enjoy or want or need to do, just falls in to place. I invite you to make Him the Priority. If you need a reminder, give me a call, we can help each other.
Now for our week -
I am settling into my routine. It was kind of crazy this week with my laptop crashing. I spent a great deal of time at the local airport with the IT guy.
The Queen is doing her best to finish up her newest project. We has searched high and low for the right style of tile, but finally decided this week that she was just going to paint over the old to get the color she wants. It will work. She has a crazy schedule this week, messing up her routine, and ours, but we will keep the priorities.
The Professor is just plugging along. She seemed to have a week filled with a different meeting each night this week. Then we convinced her to join us up north for a Jr. High play. It brought back memories. Some we will never forget. Momma Bear did a great job.
Tall Man has been in and out this week. We really haven't had much of an update from him. We tried to visit Ehl-Bo on the job, but missed her by just a few minutes. We hope all is going well in that area.
Puddin is wrapping up training, recruiting friends, and was give his own company truck. Friday was his first day on a solo route. Now he is just waiting for the pay check.
We were able to see Lady Hawkins in person this weekend. It has been a joy to have her around. Puddin and she do their best to make up for lost visitations during the week. They just need to remember that there are not that many hours in a weekend and is OK to sleep once in a while, better if the sleeping is not done while driving.
That is about it from our neck of the woods. We will try to get some reports from Grandma and Grandpa while cruising the Pacific. Until then...
