To Whom do we Identify

Hey Y'all,

Yep, another week has just zipped by us.  To be honest, I am not sure where my thoughts are going to go today.  I have been pondering a great deal this week.  I am not sure it has all been around just one scripture, but rather a thought.  The things that have stood out to me in study for Sunday School and Personal study of Book of Mormon has been honed in on Faith and Belief.  I have spent a great deal of time think about both and the differences.  I have thought a great deal about Alma 12:22-23.  Here my thoughts have been mostly about mankind becoming a lost and fallen people.  I guess it can circle back to the same thoughts of Faith and Belief, but it has not been were my thoughts are.

Part 1 - OK, here we go.  We were watching an episode of a silly television series.  The father, a local celebrity of sorts, had been asked to speak as this daughter's graduation, but only if she was able to proof read it before he spoke.  He had started the speech by addressing the audience with "Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen..."  He as told that he could not start that way because there might be people who don't identify with being "Ladies and Gentlemen".  We laughed, but then more I think about it, the more I realize that it is probably true.  But like this character in the series, I asked the same question.  If they don't identify with "Ladies and Gentlemen", who do they identify with?

Part 2 - I was standing at a bus stop a few days ago when I noticed one of the young ladies standing with us.  It was kind of chilly, so at first I did not really notice anything different about her, but then she removed her back pack to retrieve something from within is contents.  It was then that I noticed that what I thought was a long fashionable key chain, lanyard, or something hanging from her back pack, was really attached to the back of her pants.  It was a long silver white fox tail.  Maybe it is just me, but I thought is to be a little odd.  When I brought it up, several people have informed me that she is probably self-identifying with a fox.  What!?  Yep, it is true.  I have started doing some re-search and learned that this is not uncommon.  I must live in a hole.

Part 3 - We were grocery shopping yesterday.  While standing in the check out line, a man walked past us trying to get to the restroom.  A flash of pink and purple caught my attention.  At first, I thought he was an employee and just had a pink and purple feather duster lodged in his back pocket, not at all uncommon.  However, when he came out of the restroom, I noticed that he was not an employee.  As he walked past us again, I noted that the tail coat of his jacket was fashionably divided so that his tail could stick out.  Whoa, what kind of animal was this guy trying to identify with?  It was a relatively small nub of a tail, but odd, to me, still the same.  I shook my head and tried to figure out what the heck was happening around me.  I really started scratching my head when left the store.  It was then that we noticed that said individuals companion had a multi-colored tail that was about 2 1/2 feet long protruding from the divide of her tail coat.

It has had me wondering.  This idea of self-identifying with someone, something, or some image of one's imagination.  Where does it come from?  It just seemed odd to me.  Then I started thinking about Alma 12:22-23.  Mankind became a lost and fallen people.

I am not sure I completely understand what happened when Adam and Eve partook of this "forbidden" fruit.  There was obviously some chemical change in their then immortal bodies that made them mortal.  We could speculate for years on end about that one.  The thing that struck me was that Adam and Eve, when they partook, suddenly chose to identify with someone or thing other that God and His plan.

How many of us find ourselves in the same boat.  It does not have to be a tail, a race, a color, a shape, or anything else.  How many of us have chosen to stop identifying with God and His plan to follow the path of another?  This really hit home this afternoon in Sacrament meeting as the Atonement was  discussed.  The idea of the Atonement is that we become "One" with God.  Any time we turn our backs, rebel, sin, or really stop identifying with God, we are choosing not to be "One" with Him.  We are turning our backs on the Atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Think about it.  I know am still pondering it.  Where do I identify?

I will live you with your own thoughts as I review the week.

It has been a crazy kind of week.  The Queen decided it would be fun to train a night class this week.  She did not start working until most of us had already completed our days labor.   We knew she was here, but really could not do much with her.  It made for different spent evenings.

The Professor was out and about through out the week.  She followed a pretty normal work pattern, but spent several nights on visits, meetings, or team building activities.  We only saw her about 50% of the time.

Tall Man started opened another show on Friday.  We went last night.  It was a little different, but fun to see.  As we visited with him, we learned that he  interviewed for an opening on his current job site.  It would be step up.

Ehl-Bo spent the afternoon with us while Tall Man performed his matinee.  It was nice to catch up.  She is working at a flower shop and looking forward to a recent call back for some church videos.  We will keep you updated as to what becomes of it.

They both joined us for dinner this evening, another added bonus to the week.

Puddin spent his week catching up on sleep, working, and being chased.  He is learning his lesson about the benefits of cruise control.  He got his first pay check in a while and is looking forward to spending more in the future.

Lady Hawkins has been busy trying to stay safe and dry this week.  With the warmer temperatures, rain, and Spring run off, the drainage systems are on overload.  We were glad she was able to come to this side of the mountains and at least be able to shower.

Songbird also dropped by this week.  We had a wonderful visit.  It was fun to catch up and her laugh.

That's about it from our neck of the woods.

Until next time,

Cheerios
