Learning Endurance

Winter has arrived!  I know that it has been cold, rainy, and yes we have had some snow, but this weekend it really feels like Winter has arrived here at home.  I hope that all of you are safe, warm, and know that you are loved.

This week has been Okay.  It has been a mixed bag.  Sundance started on Thursday.  Yeah, I know you are thinking, so what?  I have never been to Sundance so why would it matter.  Well, with the Queen being out of town, I have been spending my time driving.  Sundance means that Uber has encouraged so many drivers from other states to come to Sundance that they have overwhelmed the supply.  I could not get a ride for the life of me.  It soon became apparent that I was just wasting time and gas.

Therefore, I needed to find some other ways to fill my time.  I tried to follow the Prophet's encouragement to do more good and attend the temple.  It was so happy that I did.  I also spent a little extra time pondering and studying.

This week I have pondered many other things, but one focal point has been 3 Nephi 27:15-18.

Take a moment and read it.  What stands out?

I can't help but sit in awe each time I read these verses.  Everything that Christ did was to this end, to be lifted up to draw ALL men unto Him.  Think about that for a moment.  Is there anything more true than this?  Since the beginning of recorded history, Christ, His life, His Crucifixion, and all He did was to draw men unto His gospel.  He is consistent throughout history.  It does not matter whether it was for good or bad, Christ's life has drawn man's attention.  I prefer to see the good and the good He has been in my life.

Next, for all that do what He asks us to do, all who repent/make changes in our lives to live according to His gospel, will be filled.  Filled with the power and strength to be forgiven, but most importantly to endure.

The most I get out of these verses is the part about enduring.  How many of wonder about endurance?  How many of us wonder about how well we endure?  These are the thoughts that came to my mind this week.

As pondered these thoughts this week, I was drawn to the talk by President Stephen W. Owens, General Young Men's President.  I know that I am ahead of the study program, as this is what I am encouraging you to read this week, but it has really struck a tone with me.  The main part that struck me was as he talked of President Hinckley giving a pep talk to the team.  They won the game THAT DAY.  However, the question is left to us to ponder.  Did they win every game after that?  No!  Did they stop playing the minute they lost a game?  No!  They endured.

This is what we need to do as well.  I am sure that on THAT DAY, they had worked hard to succeed in THAT GAME.  I am sure that in the games that followed, they worked just has hard.  I imagine that when the day came that they lost, they did not give up.  They may have been discouraged.  They may have suffered some setbacks, but they did not give up.  They did not stop practicing.  They did not stop trying to improve.  They did not stop looking for things that they might change to be better for future games.  I am sure they went on to win some and lose some, but they continued to endure.

That is what we are to learn from these verses.  The gospel is the same way.  We will have ups and downs, but we don’t give up.  We keep looking for ways to improve.  When we have doubts, we keep doing what we have confidence in and look for ways to overcome our doubts, make changes and improve.  That is what it means to endure.

I hope you take the time to read the rest of the talk.  Learn about the enduring, repenting, and making it positive.

What about last week?  Did you enjoy Sister Bingham's talk?  What changes are you making to Learn of Christ, have Faith in Christ, and Emulate Christ?

Our Week -

It has been another one of those weeks.  Work, Eat, Sleep, repeat.

The Queen headed out bright and early on Monday morning, sat at the airport for a while and then eventually ended up in the Windy City.  She had a week full of adventure, teaching, meeting new people, and reminiscing with old acquaintances.  She came home just before Winter arrived.

The Professor has been plugging a long.  There were good days and bad days this week, but she endured.

Tall Man and Ehl-Bo are doing well.  They also had good days and bad days this week.  They are both enjoying school right now.  Work is good and they continue moving forward.  We look forward to seeing more of Ehl-Bo's creations.

Puddin and Lady Hawkins also dropped in this weekend.  It was so good to see them.  They have jumped into the semester with both feet and are continually looking at ways to change or improve the path before them.  Their schedules are crazy, but they are loving life.

Hope you all have a great week.
