There is nothing too silly to cry over...

Greetings -

Here we are again almost at the end of another month.  It is amazing how fast time flies.  We will be in a new month the next time I post.  I hope your January has been productive and that you have been able to stick with some of your desired life modifications.  Remember we do them in baby steps, it does not all have to be done at once.

My pondering this week has not been on just one single verse because this chain of verses is so inter-related.  I guess one could spend a great deal of time breaking them down one by one, in fact, I would invite you to do that as you ponder them yourselves, but I have thought about all of them this week just because of different event in my life and thought process.

Alma 34:17-27

"Therefore my God grant unto you, my brethren, that ye may begin to exercise your faith unto repentance, that ye may begin to call upon his holy name, that he would have mercy upon you;"

"Yea, cry unto him for mercy; for his mighty to save."

"Yea, humble yourselves, and continue in prayer unto him."

"Cry unto him when ye are in your fields, yea, over all your flocks."

"Cry unto him in your houses, yea, over all your household, both morning, mid-day, and evening."

"Yea, cry unto him against the power of your enemies."

"Yea, cry unto him against the devil, who is an enemy to all righteousness."

" Cry unto him over the crops of your fields, that ye may prosper in them."

"Cry over the flocks of your fields, that they may increase."

"But this is not all; ye must pour out your souls in your closets, and in your secret places, and in your wilderness."

"Yea, an when you do not cry unto the Lord, let your hearts be full, drawn out in prayer unto him continually for your welfare, and also for the welfare of those who are around you."

PRAYER!  What more needs to be said.  If you read and study this, there is not much more that one could say, the challenge is to start with verse 17.  We have to do it.  We have to get over ourselves and pray for all things in our lives.  We have to be willing to talk to the Lord about all our concerns, not just our spiritual growth and development, but all things.  Do we?

This week I had the opportunity to meet with youth and talk about goal setting.  We were meeting in a group and realized that some goals sound crazy silly at times, but that is OK.  They are things that we may think about and want to accomplish someday.  When we encouraged the youth to pray about their goals and seek guidance as to how to accomplish them, they looked at us like we were crazy.  I could see the wheels spinning in their heads, "Why would I pray to Heavenly Father about learning how to put a diesel engine in a Prius?"  Why not?  If that is a goal of something you want to do someday, why not?  What would you learn along the way?  Would you be a better person because of it?  Would it require that you develop and build upon your talents and resources?  Heck Yeah!

Sometimes I think that we over complicate things in our lives and listen to the adversary when we start demeaning ourselves about how to learn and accomplish things.  I know I need to get better at this.  Maybe that is why I have been pondering about it, especially when I get frustrated in a project that hits roadblocks.  I need to remember these verses more and instead of getting overly frustrated and putting myself down, I need to step back and pray.  I have seen it happen.  I just need to do it more like Amulek says and exercise more faith in going to the Lord.  Maybe I should follow the same advice I have given the youth and start the project with prayer.

This week in Come Follow Me, we have been reading about Nephi's experience with Lehi's dream and many more things that were not recorded, but in chapter 17 of 1 Nephi, we see how Laman and Lemuel responded or did not respond to the same opportunities.  I wonder what justifications they used to avoid exercising faith?  I wonder more and more if we don't do the same, believing that our requests may be too silly for our Heavenly Father to deal with.  This is not true.  We have to have faith and go to him in all things, spiritual, physical, temporal, social, emotional, and more.  Go to him!

Ok on to our week:

The Queen spend the first half of the week chillin' in the Windy City.  Unfortunately, this may have been of the last times she makes trips like that for while.  But that is OK, there are bigger and better things in her future.

The Professor had a wonderful week bonding with her kiddos and learning how to help them be better all around.  I hope she learns from the counsel she shares with them.

We haven't heard much from Tall Man, Ehl-Bo and little Lego this week.  It has just been a busy one.

Puddin is in the second week of waiting for the next step of progression.  We keep him in our prayers and thoughts.  Lady Hawkins is hot and heavy back in the next semester or school.  We understand she has had to deal with interesting instructors.

SnackPack has been busy all week.  Work is crazy, but he is making it successful.  He has been dealing with some obstacles of his own, but learning to overcome them little by little.  It will happen.

Love you all
