Scripture Thought

1 Nephi 8:11-12

In our last verse, we talked about the fruit of the tree. We talked about how good this fruit is, what it is, why we might want it. Does it make sense? Do we really understand?

In verse 11, I am impressed with the thought that once Lehi partook of this fruit. If filled him in every way. He was not left want, physically as well as spiritually. What has this power?

The next thing that I notice is that it is free. There are no cash registers, no payment boxes, no restriction. The tree and fruit are there for the taking. Any and everyone has the capacity to come to this tree and partake. It is unconditional.

When Lehi partook, we see that he was filled. The taste there of surpassed even his wildest imaginations or expectations. Yet we know that there were and are others that have partaken, yet do not feel the same way. Why?

God's love is unconditional. The tree and fruit is always there. It is up to us to move towards it. It requires us to want and receive it. The tree and fruit are not going to come to us. We must do something to get it. It is the path that gets us there that is sometimes challenging.

Are we seeking this fruit the way Lehi sought it? Do we hunger and thirst for such fruit? Are we making the sacrifices to get it? Or are we waiting for someone to bring it to us? Are we trying to fill ourselves with something else along the way?

I have partaken of some of the fruit of this tree. It is satisfying in every way. Like Lehi, I desire those I love to partake as well. Come to the tree. Make the sacrifices. Be filled and satisfied.

That being said, like anything else the Lord offers us, we must receive. You can come, pluck the fruit, and set it on the counter. You can nibble and bite without swallowing. You must partake, desire, want, and receive.
