Creative Direction

It is that time of year again.  We are now officially 4 weeks into the school year and have had the opportunity to meet, greet, and be informed by those education professionals that serve our children and community.  It has been fun.

We heard a recurring theme with each of them.  "Your child is a joy to have in class, they just need to focus their creative energy in the right direction."  "......has so much potential, we just need to keep them focused in the right direction."  ".....start out this year at the front of my class, but I had to move them to the back so their business would not distract the others in the class."

Now, these comments were not made to just us.  Most of the time we had the said child with us.  Their instructor would go between looking at us and talking to our child.  They were pleased to us shaking our heads in agreement.  They were even more inspired when we vocalized our blessings to the comment.  But as we walked away, the said child would say, "Gees, why do you have to dis me in front of my teachers?"  When we had visited all of the teachers, there was a sigh of relief and comments vocalized as, "Thank goodness that is over, now I won't have to hear it until the end of the year."

Why?  Are we wrong?  Shouldn't we be encouraging our children and ourselves to be anxiously engaged in things of good and right.  I know we have talked about this before.  I am not trying to dis you, I am trying to help you, remind you, and help you see that I am not the only one who sees your great potential in life.  Capitalize on it.

As I am typing this blog, one said child, randomly called out something they had learned while doing homework.  "Did you hear they have changed the meaning and use of A.D. and B.C.?"  I had not.  Evidently, they have changed it to B.C. E. and A.C. E, meaning "Before Common Era and After Common Era".

What does this have to do with anything?  It tells me that someone or many people in the world have joined forces and directed a great deal of creative energy to remove Jesus Christ from the world.  They have probably spent countless hours trying to make the world erase the fact that he died, that he is significant, and that his death plays a great role in the world.  They are trying to bring their business to the front of the classroom and distract the rest of us from what we are suppose to be learning in the school called life.

We can do better.  We need to focus the talents and abilities we have been given for the betterment of all.  We should be lifting up, helping, teaching, and leading others to a common goal of good, not distracting them from it.

Earlier this summer, we talked about avoiding distractions, even if they seem to be harmless.  We need to tune out the business of the world media and life to focus on that which is good.  It does not mean we have to stop having fun.  We just need to make sure we understand when it is appropriate and when it is not, then lead with that example.

Bring the focus back.  Keep the focus.  Take control.

Examples:

"Inconceivable!"

"I Promise"

"Wallaby"

"Use the Force"

"Crikey"

"We can rebuild..."

Where do these words or phrases take you?  How long did you rehearse the scene in your mind or start acting it out?  Are they bad things?  No.  But they can distract us and those around us if we were in a business meeting and someone used or said one of these or a million other catch words or phrases.  Find the balance.
