Learning
The Queen and I had the opportunity last night receive instruction in many ways last night. It was our stake temple night. Our goal was to make it in time for a 5 p.m. session, but life happens. As I walked into the dressing room, the brethren were making a final call. After consulting with the Queen, we decided to go upstairs and participate in sealings. Our sealer was incredible.
We spent the next 2 hours working vicariously and learning in the House of the Lord. Between each ordinance, the sealer would stop and ask us all to reflect on certain aspects of the work we were doing. Not only did it keep us awake, but opened our minds and hearts to the power of personal revelation. As a group, we would discuss the answers we were receiving and reflect on the personal promptings we were given. It was a wonderful evening.
Anyway, I have been and will continue to ponder some of those personal moments. My mind is moving.
In the sealing ordiance, generally only two patrons are participating at one time. Every once in a while children will be sealed to parents, which requires one or two more patrons. The rest of us just sit and observer, ponder, or wander. I find myself doing all three. Our sealer last night helped keep me a little focused.
One of the more magestic parts of the temple is standing in one of the sealing rooms where there are mirrors hanging on opposite walls. When one stands in front of them, it creates and image of eternity that our mortal minds can phathom. It is a glorious thing to stand and attemp to count the numerous reflection upon reflection in those mirrors.
Last night, during one of those moments of wandering, the mirrors caught my eye. I stretched my neck to try and get a better image in my head, but was satisfied with the one I had. While doing so, it suddenly dawned on me that with out the beautifully light chandelier in the room, there would not be much reflection. I made this observation of one of two side mirrors. Their reflection did not contain the immediate attention of the chandelier. Don't get me wrong, they are all beautiful in their own right, but when you stood in front of them, your image faded it to darkness.
On the other hand, the large mirrors in the middle, had full attention of the chandelier. With that chandelier came light. As one stands in front of them and reflects upon the possibilities of eternity, it is easy to see where we have gone, and where we have to go and clearly where we are today. Sound familiar.
So what is the difference, the Light. Without it, the room would have been dark. With out light, none of us have the opportunity to see these things. In darkness, there is no vision. One becomes stagnant. With the light, not only are the mirrors filled, but the entire room.
Symbolically, that is the roller Christ plays in our lives. With him we are able to see where we have come from, where we are, and where we have the potential to go. We see. He is the light. Without him, we have no reflection, not growth, and no development. Do you see the light? Are you reflecting upon it? Hold that thought.
What a wonderful plan. I am grateful to have learned last night at the feet of this great man, called to serve as a sealer.
