Being led by the Harrowing

Good Morning All -

I hope this post finds you all well, focused, and preparing for new adventures in the week to come.  I know my week has not gone the direction I had planned, that is what the tuck and roll method is all about.  Even when I did not tuck all the way or rolled a little further than I had planned, I came out walking.  Most importantly, I learn that I could not have done either with out divine intervention.

This week's ponder comes from Alma 36:17

"And it came to pass that as I was thus racked with torment, while I was harrowed up by the memory of my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world."

A single verse, but filled with so much to think about.

Alma was racked with torment.

Who caused this torment?  What it God?  I think that often times we feel that the torment, trials, or adversity we live is caused by God.  However, as I read this verse, I think differently.  This torment was self inflicted.  Alma knew the difference between right and wrong.  He had been raised in a home where the laws and commandments of God were taught.  I think that in his heart, Alma believed that these things were true because he had received a personal witness from the Holy Ghost at some point in his life, whether he recognized it as such or not.  He had received that witness.

The torment and harrowing was because he knew he was not living according to that which he knew was truth.

Unfortunately, there are many in the world who have not been raised or taught as Alma had been.  Though they may have felt at one point or another the difference of right and wrong, it was never reinforced.  Eventually they have become hardened to such feelings and thus choose to walk a different path, that may or may not cause/inflict hardship on others.

God does not cause these things to happen, but allows them to transpire, because he knows that we must all learn from the agency we exercise in this mortal life.

I invite you to let the your torment and harrowing lead you back to God and Jesus Christ, just as it did Alma.

The other thought that stands out to me is Alma's memory and remembrance of Jesus Christ.  He, Jesus Christ, is "a Son of God", just like us.  As God's Son, he chose to Atone for the sins of the world.  An act he did out of love.  The power of which we continue to receive today because of that love.

What can we learn from this?  How much love do you have as a Son or Daughter of God?  How are you demonstrating that love for God and your brothers and sister?  Is there more that could be done?  What could you do differently?

Our week -

It has been pretty straight forward this week.

The Queen was back to her office.  She was not on the phones all the time, but she was back trying to make adjustments to the routine.   When she was not working, she was trying to catch up on different projects on her "to do list".  I am grateful for her willingness to support me this week.  I cherished the moments we were able to share together as I tried to support her.

The Professor endured the challenge of Parent Teacher conferences.  She was fairly pleased with the outcome of it all.

Tall Man and Ehl-Bo continue moving forward, juggling all the plates they have to spin.  We have enjoyed spending time with them and Lego this weekend in the mountains and last weekend witnessing Lego's blessing.

Puddin shared some exciting news with us this week.  He has advanced to the next level in the interview process.  We look forward to hearing the outcome of the next challenge.  We/I had the opportunity to see Lady Hawkins on the job.  Fortunately, I was not one of her patients, not because she would not have taken care of me, but because I am not ready for the stage of life yet.

SnackPack was busy, busy, busy.  He is taking on more and more responsibilities for work.  He spent time on the court, on the road, building, leading, partying, and cuddling newborns.  His plates is overflowing.

We are grateful that Gran S is on the mend.  She had a couple ups and downs this week, but her vowels are clearer now and seem to be flowing off her tongue naturally.
