Making the Covenants

Greetings All -

After two weeks of absence and failed attempts to keep upon my weekly blogging, I am going to try something a little different this week.  Repentance/change/adaptation if you will.  Let's see if I can catch up on things.

We will start with pondering.  I love the verse of pondering this pat week.  It happens to be the Youth Theme for 2020 as well.

1 Nephi 3:7

"And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord had commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare away for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."

We all know the history of this verse of scripture.  Nephi is making a covenant with his father, Lehi, to do the things he has asked him to do.  Have any of us ever done that?  What promises or covenants have we made with our mother or father?  Have we lived up to them?

As I pondered this verse this past week, I started making it more personal each time I read it.  "...I, (your name), said unto my (dad, mom, father in heaven): I will go and do the things which the Lord (had, has, will) command(ed)..."

This is a single covenant that Nephi was making with his father.  We have the same opportunities everyday to make such covenants.  We probably have made many through out our lives and will continue do so.

Getting on my soapbox again, my question is, what are those covenants?  Do we just think of covenants as commandments?  Just saving ordinances? or do we expand them into all aspects of our lives?  Do we only make temporal covenants with our temporal parents or do we make them with our heavenly parents as well?  Do we make spiritual covenants only with the parents of our spirits or we make them with our temporal parents as well?  Do we involved all of them in our lives?  Do we spend as much time focused on our spiritual parents as we do our earthly parents?  Who do we think of more?  Shouldn't it be balanced?

Yes, I know this verse of scripture talks about the promises and blessings of keeping spiritual commandments, but they also apply to temporal commandments.  We can make covenants about our temporal life just as easily as we can about our spiritual lives.  Are we?

If we have, the question now is, are we doing what we have covenanted/promised?  As Elder Vinson encouraged us in his general conference address, would echo his thoughts and words, "...consider your ways..."

Our life adventures over the past two weeks...

It has been busy.  I feel like I have been on the road every week in the month of October, but it was not quite that bad.  The Queen and I came home on the 18th. Then Puddin and Lady Hawkins did the same on the 20th.  I think I mentioned that.

On the 21st, the Queen, Professor, and I went on a lazy adventure.  It was not filled with crazy stuff, but it was nice to relax, spend time together, and see a couple new places.  We were excited to add the Phoenix and Gilbert Temples to our memories.  We went from mild to hot to cold to hot and back to cold in just a few days of adventure.  We saw the stars and stirred the dust of ancient dwellings.  It was fun.

We returned home on the 25th, had another wonderful family gathering, and then I hit the road again, I have been North, East, West and South this week.  Now I am sitting here with Lego, trying to catch up on stuff.

The Queen had another week of vacation, but has really been trying to catch up from being gone so long.  I think she is now almost ready for neighbor gifts.  She wanted to get work done on one of her personal projects, but it has just been too darn cold around here for her to work in the garage even.

The Professor had three days of conferences this week and spent the last two days of the week trying to catch up and get ready for parent conferences next week.  She made a flying trip down south before the St. George Temple closes for renovations and will meander home today.

Tall Man is still juggling work, school, and family.  Ehl-Bo is juggling work and family.  Lego is being juggled.  I am watching him here today, just learning about his hands, feet, and all the sounds he can make.  It is fun to watch.

We have missed seeing Lady Hawkins the past couple weeks, but know she is juggling as well.  It sounds like Puddin has another opportunity coming up on Monday.  We are hoping he is able to make the cut and start a new adventure.

SnackPack has been wined and dined this week.  He is prepping for changes at work and figuring out school.  We love that he extends family to so many around him.

We are happy to report Granny S was able to have successful procedure yesterday.  It was a little later than we were expecting, but it is done.  Now on to recovery.  She is in our thoughts and prayers that her body will do it's part now.

I hope you are all well.  We will see if this new plan will keep me on track with all the changes.

Cheerios!
