Angels of God

My mind continues to be full.

Recent events have given me cause of great reflection.  I am reminded how hard it is at times to stand up and share what one believes.  Even more difficult to stand and do it in front of people you know.  We put ourselves in the spot light, we fear what others may think of us if they knew or know what we profess to believe and who we desire to be.  This could be why at times it is so hard to do our home and visiting teaching, accept callings, speak in church, or just plain and simple bear our witness of Christ.  We allow the adversary to cloud our minds with doubt, fear of rejection, and pride.

It is this doubt, fear, and pride that I wish to overcome.  I wish to help others do the same.  As I have been pondering a good way to explain why we are asked to do such things, I came upon these verses in Alma 12:28-29.  Go head and read if you would like, but while you are reading, let me give a little preview.

Alma and Amulek are teaching the people of Ammoniah.  They have just been instruments in astonishing and amazing the people when one Antionah asks for more clarification.  Alma does a wonderful, if not poetic, job of explaining/clarifying the plan of redemption.  Then he explains why we must stand up and share.

After preparing the plan, our Heavenly Father did not want us to participate blindly.  "God had appointed that these things should come unto man, behold, then he saw that it was expedient that man should know concerning the things whereof he had appointed unto them; Therefore he sent angels to converse with them who caused men to behold his glory."

What is the definition of an angel?  One who speaks by the power of the spirit/holy ghost.

Once we have received our own personal witness, a witness that is born to our spirits, we now have the opportunity to be called upon as angels.  We can testify that others may behold the glory of God.  Home and visiting teachers, primary teachers, brothers and sisters, missionaries, leaders, friend, family, whatever role you may currently stand in.  You are called to be angels of God.  Messengers from Heaven.

Now the question is to what purpose do we testify of these thing?

Once they had beheld the glory of God, been exposed to the Holy Ghost... they must do something for themselves.
  • Call upon his name - they must exercise enough faith to pray
  • God converses with them - they must learn to listen to His counsel
  • Made known unto them the plan of redemption - he gives us the outline, syllabus, road map, direction we need to return to His presence.
All this can be ours IF, we exercise faith and repentance/change through our works and actions.

This is what we do when testifying.  We help others learn how to gain their own.  We remind those who have once had it how to get it back.  Just the basics, but often the hardest thing to do.

Wow, what a great plan.  Now I encourage you to do something about it.  Exercise your faith and holy works, repent, teach, accept callings, speaks, stand up, and be not afraid.
