Anxiety

I had an interesting experience today. I was asked to train a class on Emergency Response. This is the first class that I have taught, second that we as an office have taught, since the plane crash in Feb. I was dealing with 8 individuals who work at home.

I started the training off by asking how many of them had taken any calls during the incident. 1 agent out of 8 had taken a single call during the busy weekend in Feb. I asked the rest of them how they felt during the ordeal. Each one of them shared their concerns, their fears, and most importantly how they were all anxious about taking calls during that time.

We spent a good portion of the training talking about stress and anxiety. We talked about how it manifests itself. It was not long before I could hear some of the agents getting emotional. Pretty soon they were talking about how these incident had affected them. Then I started getting emotional.

When all was said and done, I told them to relax, breath deep, and follow some of the guidelines we had talked about in the class.

Take time to reflect personally - write in a journal, be alone, analyze where you are and where you want to be.

Talk with others about your concerns and anxiety - people you feel comfortable with.

Laugh - watch a funny movie, take some time to be silly, enjoy the people you are with.

Music - listen to up beat, inspirational music. Music that makes you want to tap your toes, wiggle your tush, and shake your shoulders, then get up and dance.

Realize that these emotions are normal. When all else fails, get on your knees and pray. He is there, his listening, he cares, and I know he will answer you.
