1 Nephi 3:13

I always read this verse and wonder what Laman said that would up Laban so angry? He was just asking if he could have the Brass Plates. These plates must have been pretty important. What was Laban worried about losing by giving up the plates? Was it status thing, a power issue, or just a pride issue?

It also makes me wonder how many other people valued these plates. How many knew about them? Why would telling the people the Laman was a thief stir up the people? This does not make sense to me. Laman went and asked for an audience with Laban. Didn't Laban accept him and invite him to his home? Why would he try to slay him?

The value of these plates and the information on them must have been great. We know that they had a purpose. This purpose, when used correctly benefited many. My question is, was Laban using them to benefit the people? Or was he using them for personal gain, status, and pride?

Are there things in our life that you are like these plates? How are you using them? Are you letting price, status, or power over others interfere with sharing your talents and gifts? Think about it.
