Interesting

Ok, I guess I made a mistake. My last entry talked about this mass email I received. Well, not only did I share my ranting and ramblings with you, I also responded to the email. Out of habit, I replied to all. I kept it simple.

"So, what happens to the person in Canada, Mexico, China, or any other place in the world that loses their job because we decided to purchase based on where the product was made. Are you saying we are more deserving than they are? Why aren't we working on a solution that benefits all of God's Children equally instead of dividing us."

I tried to keep it low key and share my feelings. After I hit the send button, I suddenly had second thoughts. OOPPS too late. I started getting the responses I thought I might get.

Some one responded,"When flying, the flight attendants tell us to put the oxygen mask on us before we put it on our children because an unconscious adult is of no help to a child. We need to take care of our own first. PS do not bother responding to this email, I have taught you enough."

Wow!

Some one else responded that they agreed with me, they liked the low prices and are doing what they can to survive, but they are concerned about the small Mom and Pop joints that are going out of business because of these major groups that have insane labor conditions.

So what is it yes or no.

I kindly responded to those who responded to me. The email was sent out to all. I thought the person sending it was looking for conversation. I guess I started some.

This morning, I have an email from the original sender telling me not to respond anymore. She has been getting several emails from friends and family complaining about my responding. She told me she like to hear other peoples opinions, but.... I will be surprised if I get an email from them again. My concern is that this person is in my ward. They currently hold a position in the Relief Society Presidency. Have I caused offense?

I struggle, was my comment viewed and being "UN-American"? When asked to choose, should I be UN-American or UN-Christlike? From some of the responses I get the feeling that we, the USA, are supposed to take care of ourselves first so we can help others. How are we supposed to help them? Give them jobs or give them handouts? If we give them jobs, isn't that taking jobs away from the USA again? I am so confused as to where to stand on this topic at times.

What is the Perpetual Education Fund all about? We make donations to help those in other countries become better prepared to take care of their families. They are trained, get jobs, and yes some of those jobs may affect other jobs in other parts of the world. How do we win?

It has become obvious that people want to talk, but only to those who share their same views. Is this what divides us religiously? Is this what divides our countries? Is it the same "Me-itis" syndrome? or "Us-itis" against "Them-itis"?
