Just a Check up
Not much is happening around here. Some of us are busy thinking about gifts for the Holiday. I was impressed to see that Horn Man has already completed his Christmas Gifts for the family and is waiting patiently to place them under the tree. He wrapped them all last night. I envy his diligence. I wish I was ready to say that I had all mine ready to put under the tree.
Yesterday was a peaceful day. The snow fall made the earth beautiful in its blanket of white. I did not enjoy the shoveling, but was grateful that it was light and easy to move. It is still cold enough that it is not melting so we don't have to worry about the ice melt. Now if I could get the boys to help more with it. I am a little concerned about this week. I am on late duty at work. If it snows, I don't want the Queen trying to move it. I am expecting my boys to cover for me while I am at work.
Back to yesterday, we had a new family sitting by us. They are not new to the ward, just new to the pew area. We have always tried to sit close to the Bishop's family so we could help his wife with the kids if needed. I have been thinking about the counselor's families as well. 2nd counselor's family does pretty good. 1st counselor's has some issues. It was nice to have them sitting right behind us yesterday. We arrived just as the meeting was getting ready to start and found one of their children sitting on the pew where we normally sit. It was a welcome surprise.
At first, I did not think he would stay, but he did. As the meeting progressed, he started leaning in more and more to my side. By the time the Sacrament had been passed, he was sitting on my lap. He as 5 siblings. Not only is he one of the middle ones, but shares that position with a sister who has downs syndrome. I had the feeling he just needed some attention.
Out of habit, I started bouncing my knee as soon as he sat down. It was obvious that he was enjoying the ride. However, this old man can only go on so long. I tried to get him to switch knees, but then it would have placed him further from Horn Man, who he occasionally had a thumb war with during the meeting.
At one point, I thought I could get a way with a non bouncing knee while he was distracted in battle. I don't think I had stopped for more than 10 seconds when he ask Horn Man to pause the battle so he could put in more quarters. He spun around reached in to his pocket, pulled out an imaginary quarter and put it in my ear. At first I was not sure what he was doing. He continued getting these quarters until my knee started bouncing. Then he returned to the battle.
It was nice to be able to help out. His mother was overly thankful at the end of the meeting. She has a hard time keeping his older brother off of him, keeping track of our little blond friend who likes to wander, holding the 3 month old and making sure that the 2 year old does not destroy the hymn books. I let her know that any part of her family are welcome to join us each Sunday. We would do our best to assist.
So, the next time you visit, you may find the pew a little crowd, just collect the coins, and keep bouncing.
