Ring Dingity

Well, the day is almost past. We have been prepping for months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes. The question at the end of the day, was it worth it? Did everyone get what they wanted? What will they/we remember most? It seems we put ourselves through this query every year.

So, I pose the question, what did you get last year? What was it that you received that reminds you of Christmas or the one who gave it to you all year round? Is it something hanging on the wall? Is it something you use regularly? Is it something you wear? Or is it the memory of it all?

When I sit here and think about all the seasons past, I don't know that there are many specific gifts that I can remember. What I cherish most is the time I spent in the making. I remember the value and time spent in preparing a gift. Pondering, planning, scheming, and trying to figure out what would be of most use, most remembered, most beneficial to the person receiving.

I sacredly store the moments spent with family and friends. I remember the excitement and twinkle in the eye as they giggle, touch, look at, and then use. I bask in the talk of the gift. I love the memory it brings.

If you think about it, this season goes against the natural man. It requires us to think outside of ourselves. Who did you think about? If you had the ability, would you have done more? Would it have mattered?

I heard several times this season, it is the thought that counts. How often did you think outside of yourself? Why is it so hard to do it all year round? I pose the challenge to you and to myself. It is not an easy challenge to accept. Be a better child, spouse, sibling, employee, parent, neighbor, friend, etc... Can you take the challenge? Maybe we need to start small. Take them one at a time. Can you take the challenge in at least one of the areas? I am going to try. I am going to do my best to step outside and carry the season with me all year round.
