Red in new perspective

Yesterday in church, over the pulpit, a member of the bishopric told us how he really felt. The more I thought about it, the more I start to wonder if he does not have a point.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is one of the worst Christmas stories ever told. Well, not the worst, but close if you look at it from his view. It is a story about an individual who just is ridiculed because he is different. He does not fit in. He is not cool. No one likes him. He is the last to be picked in gym, if he is picked at all, and when he is the other kids make fun of him. He is called names. I am sure there were nasty things written in the stalls about him, not to mention the notes that were passed around. Even the boss man himself was not interested in accepting him.

Then one day, they discover that his differences are not so bad, especially because they need him. Now the tables are turned and he is needed. Even though it is kind of weird and they still don't really like him, his differences are useful and will help us when we need help. So, he is exploited for his differences. Does he lead the sleigh every year? I don't think so. They only give him attention when they need something from him.

How many of us find ourselves in this position? How many of us exploit others because they have a cool car, cell phone, big screen TV, boat, ATV, or anything that we want for that matter? Even though we don't like the person, we like their stuff, so that makes it OK.

How many of us only see the people in need during the holidays when it will help us get into the spirit of the season? Are we self serving when doing this or are we doing it for the right reasons? There are lots of questions. Ponder the answers. It is something to think about.

Thanks Brother W.
