Gifts

For some strange reason the word has been on my mind as of late. When we talk about gifts we also have to talk about getting or receiving them. Many times, we just talk about getting gifts, but do we really talk about receiving them. That has made me wonder.

Just a week or so ago, most of us got several gifts. What are we doing with them? Are they being received? What is the difference? Do you read the book, watch the movie, wear the shirt, or do they sit on your shelf/trophy case acquiring dust. I think that if you are using them, then you are on the right road to receiving them. But I think there is more. What did you learn from the book, movie, or shirt? Is that possible, learning something from shirt? I don't know. Do you use that information that you gained?

How many gifts to we get, but never receive? How many of them sit on the shelf losing value? A few years ago, I was given a gift card. I put it on a shelf and forgot about it. When I was cleaning up the other day, I found it and thought it would be nice to use. Unfortunately, it is of no value any more. That gift, given in love, has been completely wasted. It was never received.

I really started thinking about this last night in the temple. I have the opportunity to sealings for a couple hours on this new schedule. I sat there and really listened to the promises and blessings given during the ordinance. I listened to the covenants that were being made between the couples. There is a great deal of giving and receiving.

The more I think about it, all the ordinances require the same. My concern is if I am receiving? I sure hope I am? Am I giving? I sure hope I am? Am learning what I should from each of these? That is where I think I need to grow. Take some time to think about what you are getting and what you are receiving. Think about how you can make it better. Make sure you are not putting it away some place and forgetting about it. Just like the gift card, it will lose it's value and in the end mean nothing to you.
