1 Nephi 2:19
When we read the Book of Mormon, I feel that we are sometimes misled into thinking that you just have to pray and BAM, the answer is there. It does not always work that way. This verse is a example of this. Do you really think that Nephi came out of the woods, told his brothers what he had experienced, some rejected them, so we read the tell end of verse 18 that says he was grieved and prayed for them and BAM the Lord comes back and says you passed the test?
I think that Nephi continued to pray, discuss, talk to, be and example for, and loved his brothers for a long period of time, even though they rejected him. It was because of this endurance and dedication that the Lord came to him and told him he was blessed. We just don't read about all the things that Nephi did. This record is just a summary of what really happened all those years in the valley. If you look at the footnotes there is indication that all these things we are reading about took place sometime between 600 b.c. and592 b.c. Nephi continued to work with and for his brethren all this time. That is why he was blessed.
We to can receive the same blessings. We just need to keep working. We must keep going forward, no matter how challenging or hard it gets. There will be highs and lows. We will learn from all of them.
