1 Nephi 2:22
Nephi is told that he will be a ruler and a teacher over his brothers as long as he lives and keeps the commandments. What does it mean to be a ruler? We know that Christ will reign over the earth. Does that mean he will sit on a throne and be king? I don't think it works that way. I think he rules by example. He teaches us the way we should be doing things, shows us, and then expects us to do it. As part of his teaching, he lets us know the conditions of our actions, good or bad.
I believe Joseph Smith said a similar thing once. He said that he teaches his people the correct principles and they then govern themselves. Do you think that people would have made the effort to live those principles and govern themselves if they had not seen Joseph living them as well?
We have the same promise that Nephi had. We too can be rulers and teachers. Are we? Are we teaching our families, friends, neighbors, and associates the principles that are correct? Are we teaching them by example? Are we influences of good or bad?
I challenge you to make those changes in your lives that will having you and others around you seeking good.
