Sepsis

One of my fellow co-workers was a little upset the other day. When I talked to her about it, I learned that her grandmother is in the hospital and has been diagnosised with Sepsis. This is a life threatening condition where your bodies immune system, for some reason, goes into overload. Instead of just attacking the specific bacteria that is in the body, it starts attacking everything. Pretty soon, your blood starts to clot, major organs start shutting down and eventually you may die unless it is treated. My friends grandmother went into a coma.

I started thinking about that process and wondered if we don't have the same thing happening to us in the world. This morning on the way into work, I heard that the pornography industry is now asking the government of a bailout. Because the economy is so bad, people are not purchasing as much of their product, thus they are not able to meet their obligations. Has the world gone into an immune system over load? Are we trying to kill the bacteria in the system or is our immune system so over loaded that we just don't know what to attack.

It seems that we are over spending, over indulging, under working, under achieving, and running around wondering what is wrong with the world. How do we stop it? My suggestion is that we start with ourselves. We need to make sure that we are not becoming immune to the crap that is being thrown at us in the world and maintaining our standards, morals, and values. If we do this individually, we can then teach our children, friends and others to do the same by your example. Don't let your system kill you.
