Banking
I attended a meeting on welfare last night. It was very motivational. The leaders of the church are very concerned that the members are not becoming self reliant in all areas of there life.
Normally, when we hear the word welfare, we think of the poor, widows, orphans, fatherless, unemployed, etc... But this meeting was about more than that. When the brethren are concerned about the welfare of the kingdom, they are just as concerned about the spiritual well being of the members as they are the temporal.
So, whose responsibility is it to help us spiritually. The Celestial idea is that each of us individually would take care of our own individual growth and development. However, we all know that some people not only do not seek spiritual growth, but don't know how to recognize the promptings of the spirit when they come.
In these instances, it is our responsibility to share. Well, I guess it is our responsibility to share if we know. Marion G. Romney said, "... How can we give if there is nothing there? Food for the hungry cannot come from empty shelves. Money to assist the needy cannot come from an empty purse. Support and understanding cannot come from the emotionally starved. Teaching cannot come from the unlearned. And most important of all, spiritual guidance cannot come from the spiritually weak." Must fill our banks, shelves, purses, and minds.
It does not all come at one. We have to add a little here and a little there. We have to make sure that our banks are full, so that when called upon, we can share.
Are you banking? Do you know how to recognize the spirit? Come talk to me and we can work on if you are not sure.
