Your Enemy

I have been thinking about things that have been happening in my life the past few weeks. As you know, I serve on the agent council at my place of employment. We are choosen or elected by our fellow agents to represent them each year. In the past, it has been a fun and interesting responsibility. This year has not been as much.

I did not get to choose who I serve with. We are just placed on the council and expected to make it work. Here we are in month three and it is not going so well. There is a major division between those serving this year. We all see things differently, expect different results, and go about making changes in different formats. I have really been struggling with it this year.

Some of the topics that have been brought before the council seem more like they are personal vendettas, not office concerns. Some of the topics seem very trivial and are being addressed only to make other peoples lives miserable. Each time we meet, it seems like we go over and over the same points, just from different angles.

Well, I had talked to a loved one about similar things happening in their lives. Not necessarily at work, but in their lives. I even talked about a little on Sunday in church. It has been weighing on my mind. There is a verse in 1 Nephi chapter 2, 16. Nephi talks about praying and having his heart softened.

Note that his heart was soften, not the hearts of his enemies, co-workers, roommates, brother, sister, classmate, ward member, but his. I feel that I need to take this message to heart. I need to pray to have my heart softened, since that is the only heart I can control, that I may know how to better deal with this conflict. Shouldn't we all? Think about it.
