A Brick
I am sitting here in my basement thinking about what to say. In front of me, I see a brick. It is a nice looking brick. If I were to drop it on my toe, it would probably hurt. I am sure that I could throw it through a window and it would break. It appears to be very solid and well made. If I took several bricks of the same natural, mixed up some cement, and started putting them together, I could probably make a nice wall. That wall would appear to be pretty solid.
However, the more I think about it, the more I wonder. What is this brick made of? It looks like some one has taken some dirt, sand, small pebbles, mixed them with some water, poured them in to a mold of some sort, and then increased the heat to solidify the elements. It looks pretty strong, yet is just a bunch of sand.
If I were to take some more sand and mix it with a fine powdery sand substance called cement, and some water, I could start joining the bricks of sand. But still, it would just be a wall of sand.
In order to make the wall strong and long lasting, I would have to include some rebar. The rebar would have to be solidly planted into a strong foundation. It does not matter how strong and immovable the wall appears, it has to be secured to a firm foundation. Otherwise, it is just a bunch of sand standing together.
Often times, there are people who join together to make themselves look strong, impressive, and immovable. However, if they do not have themselves firmly planted in a foundation that will support them, back them up and go on for eternity, they are no different than that wall of sand.
Where are you planted? Who do you stand with? Are you solid, or do you just look to be solid?
