Beyond the Norm

This afternoon, I am going home to enjoy the evening with a group of wild and crazy 11 year olds. Well maybe not all of them are 11. Some may be older younger. The point is that it will be wild and crazy. Many of you know that when we do birthday parties, we have been known to go a little above and beyond.

Anyway, as I was making arrangements last night for this party, I made a call to a sister in our ward who has not known us for our adventures. When I asked her for assistance and told her what we were planning she was amazed. She could not believe we would go through so much work. I have been thinking about that all day. Why wouldn't we go through so much?

I wish we could always go above and beyond for our children. I am sure that the Lord would like to do the same for us. Unfortunately, it just doesn't happen that way. Because of the limitations of mortal life, sometimes other things get in the way. Sometimes, going beyond the norm just does not make sense. Then there are times, that giving it all goes un-appreciated, hence it is not as enjoyable to do it again.

However, I do want you to know this. No matter what you are doing, whether for your children, your friends, your roommates, your stewards in the calling you hold; you should always give it the very best that you can. It should not be done half heartily. We should not cut corners. More is expected of us.
