Building Blocks

I don't know why but I have been thinking about blocks, walls, and how they all work together. Maybe it is because I have been thinking about knocking out walls in my house or covering walls that need to be covered. I worry about some of the walls in my house. They seem to be moving. Hence, with so many walls on my brain, I have recently found myself dreaming about walls.

While dreaming, I was asked why I had built a wall. I looked at the wall and could not figure out why it was built where it was. Then I was asked what I was going to use the wall for. That started the wheels turning in my head. I woke up and pondered for hours on end.

I lay awake trying to figure out why the walls are there and why we build them. This is what I came up with:

Walls, if used properly can be good. The walls of our homes protect us from the elements, from the outside, and they can keep us safe from the influences of the world. When used properly, the walls support a roof over us. Within the walls we can find peace, love, and warmth. Walls can be good.

On the other hand, walls can also be used to lock us up, to hold us prisoner, to hide that which we don't want other to see, and are not always put together as a safe haven. Sometimes they hide the influences of the world from others seeing. Walls can also be bad.

Realizing this, it concerns me how we build, why we build, and where we build walls. Walls do not have to be physical. They can be emotional, spiritual, or mental. Where do you build your walls and why?

Are you placing your walls in the right places? Are you using them to hide? Who do you let behind your walls? Who are you keeping outside of your walls? Take some time to evaluate the walls you have built. Do you need to do some remodeling? How about building some doors and windows within your walls?

Don't put the walls between those you love most. Sometimes we need to take risks and open doors to new people, we may be surprised what we will find on the other side. Look through the windows. Pull the curtains back and let the light in. Use them for safety, but not prisons. Are you holding yourself captive? Think about it. Place your blocks well.
