Catch up

Sorry about yesterday, I was not in a position to get to a computer all day that would let me update a message. I did have this thought that I wanted to share with you though.

Sunday, we were sitting in Sacrament meeting, normal bench, normal members sitting around us.

The meeting started a little differently. Everyone seemed to be in rare form. The clocks in chapel were off by about 10 minutes, so the Bishopric were not in any rush to start the meeting. I was looking at my watch, it was 9, and there were only about 10 people in the chapel. I don't know if they walked in, saw the clock, and then walked out to do something else.

Anyway, after the meeting started, the family in front of us was having their normal challenges. The little jabber box if inquiring knowledge was sitting as far away as she could from the rest of the family, the little blond was singing to her hearts content, the oldest was just trying to be obnoxious, and the littlest was having a sticker fest all day long. As the started passing the bread and water, the little blond decided that she was going to serve everyone. She took a handful of bread and passed a piece to everyone in the family. This caught jabber box by surprise. Mother told her to just pass the tray, but she was confused. She stood there with an emblem in one hand that her sister has just given her and a tray in the other. She did know what to do. The innocence caught me by surprised. She looked at her mother and asked, "Can I take another one?"

Suddenly the sacredness of the sacrament overwhelmed me. Little jabber box reminded me of my personal covenants with the Lord. It is not something that someone can take for you. The physical act of taking those emblems represents our individual commitment to taking the name of the Saviour upon us and renewing out personal covenants with the Lord.

Can I take another one? Wouldn't that be nice? Can we take a mulligan just in case we really mess up this week? I would like to have another one just in case. The Lord is always there. He is standing with open arms. Another one is there if we need it, but the more I thought about it, the more I realize that I don't want to put him through more anguish than I already have.

Remember that the covenants are personal, sacred, and given at great expense from a loving elder brother. Please make each one count.
