Vacation?
What is your definition of vacation? Some would say it is a break from the normal routine of daily life. Some think of it as a well planned trip to a new place or land where they are able to experience new things. Others say it is just time off from work.
If this is the case, I don't know where I am right now. Moose recently concluded his performances at the high school. It has been a draining and consuming adventure. He has come home from school the past few days and said that he needs a break/vacation. He just wants to stop working for a while.
The Queen and I have recently been asked to choose which weeks we need to take next year for work and when we want to take them. As we discussed the topic, her mind was filled with grand ideas of places and things we can do while on vacation together.
In my case, my superiors have been bugging me about taking those weeks of vacation I scheduled last year. Hence, I am on vacation this week. The problem is, I don't know that I would classify it as a vacation. I have not gone to some new and exciting place to experience new things. Since I am the only in the family on "Vacation", life continues through the same daily routine, minus me going to work.
So what is it called. I have been thinking about it all week. The kids were all off today. They have planted themselves in front of the TV, refused to get dressed, and really don't want to go anywhere or do anything. How do that do it?
I just can't do it. I feel like I am idling away my time. As I woke this morning and thought about just staying in bed, I could not do it. I started thinking about those who don't have any place to go or anything to do. How do they do it? How does a person get up day in and day out and not have something to do? Is this what retirement is going to be like? I cannot imagine what it would be like to be unemployed. Though I do not always like going to work, I cannot imagine not going or doing.
I would ask you all this Thanksgiving season, to think of those who are in this state. Pray for them. Give thanks for what you have. Seek ways to help those who don't.
