Along the Same Lines

I had the opportunity to serve in the temple twice this week. Sometimes I wish I could just work there all the time. When I am outside the temple, I like to ponder upon the things that take place in the temple and what I am supposed to learn from them.

Why do we have temples? Each time I serve, we are instructed and reminded of things that we should be doing in the temple. As workers, we are to do our best to ensure that the temple is a place where patrons can come to worship, learn, and grow. In order for that to happen, we need to make sure the atmosphere is conducive to such instruction. We are instructed to whisper or not speak at all. The temple needs to be a place void of worldly distraction so that the patrons can hear and receive the instruction they are seeking.

When I am striving to provide such an environment, I find myself being open for instruction as well. I am able to ponder those things that weigh upon my mind. I am able to hear the soft whisperings of the spirit.

It is those soft whisperings that I have been thinking about lately. Everything we do in the temple leads us to one place, the presence of the Lord. Before we get to that place, we are instructed upon those things that we need to be doing to prepare ourselves for the day that we do enter his presence. In the temple, we learn that the veil between this life and the next is very thin. If we are not distracted, we can communicate and receive communication through that veil that separates us from the presence of the Lord.

In the Bible dictionary, we learn "... the temple is a sacred place, where the Lord may come. It is the most holy of any places of worship on the earth. Only the home can compare with the temple in holiness."

Today, I touch upon it again like I did in my last posting. What are we doing in our homes to make sure they are a sacred place that the Lord may come? What are we doing to insure communication through that veil is open to all who enter? Are we doing everything we can to insure the environment is conducive to such instruction?
