From the Mouths of Babes

I know I have been pretty irregular in writing the last little while. I am letting myself get caught up in life and making excuses for not feeling 100%. I am moving forward though. I will continue to do what I need to do to get it fixed.

This morning I had the opportunity to be schooled by a 10 year old. It was an incredible experience. One of the students from my primary class was getting baptized today. It has made her feel very uncomfortable the past several months as I have mentioned that all of the students in my class are able to know the Holy Ghost. I knew she had not been baptized, but talked about it to help her know that she still could be. Today, she made that step. She has set the example for several members of her family.

She shared her baptism date with a young man in our ward who comes from a family that does not struggle in this area. The presence of the gospel is very strong in his home. So the first speaker today was his older brother of two years. They share the same birth date and today they now share the gospel and experience of being baptized.

His brother stood up and talked about how important this day was for him two year ago. He talked about how important it was to be making covenants with his Father in Heaven. Talked about how warm the water felt, both inside and out. But his favorite memory was going under the water and coming out, knowing that he had just shown his desire to become clean.

It was a very moving little talk. He looked down and his brother with all the power he could muster and told him that today was an important day. It should be remembered with reverence. And that he should take it as serious as he could at his young age. Wow! From the mouths of babes.

This is exactly the same thing we discussed in the temple this past week. The importance of this initial step. The member of the presidency reminded us that there are some 90 billion people that have populated the earth. Some of them have been waiting for a very long time for baptism. We should not rush the ordinance nor treat it with any less reverence. It is day to be celebrated and taken seriously. I hope that we all take the time to ponder those covenants that we made so long ago. I pray that we still take them seriously, if not as serious, but more so today that we did then.
