It is what we do

This morning I heard on the news that one of our local celebrities was back on stage after burying her son. I did not know what to think about that. They talked about how the crowd gave her a standing ovation when she walked on stage. Her response was, "We sing. It is what we do to keep ourselves happy." She said that it was what her son would have expected her to do.

Really? I started wondering what my children expect of me. What would they expect of me the day after I buried them, not that I plan on that happening. It was just an interesting thought. Then I started wondering if my children knew what I expecting of them the day after they bury me. Do they know?

Well, I would expect them to keep moving forward. I would expect them to have hope that we will see each other again and work towards that day.

Then I wondered if they live their lives that way now? I hope so. I hope they strive to live up to the expectation that we will be a family forever. That is what I expect.

What did she expect of her son? Was he living up to her expectations? Are any of us living up to the expectations of our Father? Do we know what it is we do to keep ourselves happy, for eternity? Are we teaching our children to do the same? There is a great deal to think about.
