More than Words

I know that I have been a mess the past few days. I don't know that I can explain it. When I can I will. In the mean time, I ask that you just continue putting up with me.

This morning in our Stake Council meeting, we started talking about the hymns. We talked about the messages they bring. In the discussion, one hymn in particular came into the discussion. Hymn number 135.

I know that my Redeemer lives—
Triumphant Savior, Son of God,
Victorious over pain and death,
My king, my leader, and my Lord.

He lives my one sure rock of faith,
The one bright hope of men on earth,
The beacon to a better way,
The light beyond the veil of death.

O give me Thy sweet spirit still,
The peace that comes alone from Thee,
The faith to walk the lonely road,
That leads to Thine eternity.

This hymn was written by President Gordon B. Hinckley. It is another way that he has left his personal testimony upon the earth. I have read it a couple times today. I have pondered the witness that he was intending to leave with us.

I have received many more witnesses through out the day and feel that I need to add mine.

In the past few weeks, I have come to realize how very thin the veil between this life and the next are. I know that even though we do not always see it or always feel it, it is there. I know that those who have passed beyond the veil are very near. With this knowledge, I also know that through the will and power of God, we can call upon them. They, as instruments in our Heavenly Father's hands, speak to us, guide us, watch out for us, and desire to help us to succeed in righteousness. As we succeed, they succeed.

I know that the designer of this earth designed with purpose. We are here for a reason. This life is part of a plan. The plan is real. I put my faith in that plan. I trust that Jesus Christ came to this earth to save us from death and sin. Because of his love and mercy, we will be resurrected. The atonement is real. It is there for us to do participate in. We have to be active in that participation.

This is part of my testimony. I know and trust in these things. I strive to put my trust in the wisdom and mercy of my Heavenly Father. I pray for strength to continue doing so. I encourage each of you to do the same. Receive your own personal witness as I have.

The Lord is willing to give, are you receiving? It takes more than words. President Hinckley, like many prophets and people before him have shared their witness. Receive the power that comes with them. Plant the seed. Nurture the seed. Partake of the fruit.
