Scripture Thought 9/13/08
1 Nephi 1:4Long before Zedikiah, the people of Judah, Benjermin, Ephriam, and Manassah, gathered to the city of Jerusalem. According to references (2 Chro 15:9) these people gathered and made convenants to become a more righteous people. Asa was king or ruler then. What do you think happened between Asa and Zedikiah that the people changed so much? How much of this do you think Lehi saw and lived? How many kings did Lehi see in Jerusalem? How many prophet did he listen to?It appears that several prophets came in the same year. What do you think they were doing? Were they all there at the same time? Was it like a general conference and they all told the people they needed to change their lives or repent? Were these men like Moses, Joseph Smith, and Abraham, or were they just leaders sent to help a troubled people? Were they just general authorities called to teach? Were they just like stake presidents, bishops, or other church leaders? Were they assigned to Jerusalem as missionaries and just recieving revelation based on their stewardship? We learn later that much of what they said was recorded in the brass plates. Was Lehi called to serve with them?If you look up Prophet in the bible dictionary. What does it say? Who does these things today?I have feeling they were righteous men who stood up for what they knew to be right. They were harrassed and ridiculed for what they believed. They were chastised for placing their priorities on God rather than power and prestige.Note that Lehi did not say the people would be destroy, but that the city, the government, and those in power would destroy the people by their acts. See cross reference 2 Kings 17:13-15. It appears that there was digression. They were following the ways of the naturual man instead of the promptings and teachings of God, even though they had them written down. Are we seeing the same thing today? What can we do about it?
