Scripture Thought 9/27/08
1 Nephi 1:6
We are led to believe that Lehi was inspired of God. He describes a pillar of fire that is sitting upon a rock. What is this fire? Is it the same fire that guided the children of Israel? Is it symbolism of the Holy Ghost? If we are looking at symbolism, look at the fact that the pillar rested on a rock or firm foundation. Was Lehi being instructed to organize his life in the same pattern? Build your home on the foundations of the Gospel and its principles. Am I going out on a limb with this one? There are just some of the impressions that I had while reading.When I look a the cross references for the pillar, it indicates that it is protection. Lehi is receiving protecting guidance from the Lord. We too are protected in righteousness if we base our live upon these principles. If we listen to the promptings of the Holy Ghost, the prophets, and other leaders that we have been blessed with.I see that we are being instructed to follow the example of Lehi. Lehi listened to the prophets, he wanted to change, prayed about it and is now being instructed what he needs to do to change. How many of us have received the same guidance? How many of us have walked away from a conference, fireside, article in the Ensign, personal scripture study, a seminary class, Sunday School, Priesthood on a spiritual high? Sometimes we may feel overwhelmed by what we have been taught by the spirit. Is this what happened to Lehi?
