Knowing

OK, the slacker is back today. I should have taken more time at work to take phone calls and update the blog, but it did not happen. I was really a slacker on Friday. I have really been a slacker on weekends. I will try to do better.

This weekend we had Stake General Priesthood Meeting. It was a good meeting. It was early, but good. At one point the Stake President had the youngest deacon stand up. He asked him how hard it was to get up and go to this meeting. His answer was typical of a 12 year old. He then asked the oldest high priest in the stake to stand up. He asked him how hard it was to get up for this meeting. It was about the same as the 12 year old. He then asked the brother how old he was. He let us know that on March 26th, he would be 93. It kind of gives one something to think about. How long has he been going to meetings like that? Is that what is meant by endurance?

Anyway after thinking about the talks, I started wondering, what do I know. We were challenged to know the Saviour. If asked what we knew about Jesus Christ, what would our answers be? Would they be Sunday School answers? Would we recognize him if we saw him on the street? Would we recognize his mannerisms? Would we feel his presence?

I like to think that I would, but I know that I have a great deal of growth a head of me. I started thinking about the story of Elizabeth and Mary. From the womb, John's spirit recognized the presence of the Christ child. We need to do the same. How do we do it? We must study him, his works, his communication with us, and learn to recognize his works.

I know and recognize his redeeming love. I have felt his hand of mercy when repenting of my sins. I hope to feel it more often. I hope to place myself in tune with him. I know that I need to dedicate more time to this.

I have felt and know his love through charity. I need to have it for more people, not just a select few. It is not easy. I strive to do better. I hope that you are doing the same. It does not matter how busy life gets, we always need to take or make the time to commune with him. He will make our burdens light. I promise. He will hear and answer our prayers, no matter how trivial we may think they are. We just need to ask and then do.
