The Unknown
I had an interesting talk with the boys on the way home the other night. We were talking about cars, apartments, and life experiences. Having money, purchasing material things, and going with out material things came up.
I have been thinking about that quite a bit the past few days. I started thinking about moving to Vancouver, WA. It was a crazy idea. I knew I needed to move on with my life. I felt idle at home after my mission. I had a job, but did not feel I was going anywhere. So, I took all my savings and enrolled into a travel school.
I remember that first night moving into an apartment with three guys I did not know. We did not share the same beliefs. It was strange to open the refrigerator and see beer on the shelf. It was kind of scary. I remember spending a great deal of time on my knees.
I then remember moving to New Jersey. I had not been paid for 3 months. We still had another 5 weeks before we would get paid again. It was kind of scary. I remember digging in and finding a way to make it. We delivered newspapers for a couple of months just to put food in our stomachs and have a place to sleep. It was frightening.
I remember moving into an apartment with a bed, one small dresser, and a card table with 2 chairs. We had nothing else. When the home teachers came we sat on the floor in the living room. We did not know how we were going to make it.
We pulled up the boot straps, grabbed hold of the reins and started figuring it out. We relied on the Lord. We knew that if we were doing what we were supposed to he would help us with the rest. We had to rid ourselves of that fear. We had to step into the scary sometimes. We did it with faith.
Some 21 years later, we are still doing it. There are times that we still have to rid ourselves of fear, step forward with our eyes closed, and pray it will all work out. It does.
