What is it worth

I had an interesting discussion today with a Managing Director. He had called because we were expressing some concern about the tools we have to work with. When pushed to production, there are several little quirks that make our jobs challenging and frustrating. We wanted to know why we are given such tools when his group knew that they were incomplete. His response is what has me wondering.

He told us that another company was paying millions of dollars for us to market something. He was doing everything he could to make sure that product was programmed and running by certain date. When little nuances happen as a result, they are things that can be put on the way side. So in essence, since front line is not paying, we take the brunt of the hardship and just have to deal with it. The millions is what is paying our pay checks.

I started wondering, how many of us would lower our standards if paid off. What is the price that drives us? Where do we draw the line? Do we have a gray line, do we get close to it? Or do we know where the line is and stay away from the gray area? What are you willing to sacrifice and for what?
