Scripture Thought

1 Nephi 7:17

Nephi found himself bound.

How many of us find ourselves bound in life? What binds you? We always read about the chains of hell binding us. We read of Satan leading us away in bondage if we give into his temptation. So, my question is, "Is this the only way to be bound?

Sometimes I fear that we bind ourselves. Satan does not have to work to hard to lead us away, he lets us get caught up in the world, the distractions, and our weak flesh. He sees us doing it to ourselves.

If you go back and read/watch/listen to the conference talks you will hear stories of people all around the world who are placed in different types of bondage and how they escaped.

Think of the people in Haiti. Many of them are living in tents. They are in communities of varying types of people. Some are good and others are not. In this situation, they are given choice. They can either bind themselves with fear and stop moving forward, or they can move forward in faith. Understanding that the Lord knows where and what they are doing. He will watch over them, regardless of what happens in their lives. It may not be easy, but he is there.

I think of the flooding in the south, the volcano, those who have been stranded, people who find themselves without job, homes, cars, or other such things. It all comes down to choice. The wallow in it or they start looking for the opportunity to move forward.

Nephi found himself bound. How did he move forward?

He turned to the Lord. No matter what we find ourselves bound with, sin, illness, remorse, fear, the unknown, or what ever, the Lord is always there. Nephi turned to him in prayer. He went forward with faith that where he lacked, the Lord would make up.

What did he ask? Did he ask the Lord to strike his brother down? Did he want the Lord to sit on them? No. He asks for strength to deal with the situation. He does not ask the Lord to fix it, remove it, change it, but to give him strength to deal with it.

In our lives, we must do the same. We must learn to accept the situation, pray for strength and guidance to move forward and then act upon the strength the Lord give us, no matter the form.
