Wheeled Tour
Has anyone noticed how nice it is to be in a Spring like climate? It is hard to believe that it is the middle of May and I have not yet got on my bike this year. I have been worried that I would freeze on the ride to work or get drenched on the ride home. It is crazy to think that every morning my heater still kicks on, but I have to open the windows each night to cool the house off. Part of me wants it to stay this way and the other part does not.
Anyway, I started talking about biking. We finished things up pretty early this evening around the house. Kids really aren't doing much, first time in several weekends, and the Queen is doing her best to stay confined. I on the other hand am not confined. I should be working in the yard, but have reserved my day tomorrow for that. So I jumped on a bike and went for a little ride.
It is amazing what you notice when you are riding a bike verses driving a car. I rode through the neighborhood and then decided to take extend through the ward. I noticed several empty houses, several un-mowed lawns, dogs on the loose, and Realtor signs in various forms of disarray. What I failed to see were people.
It has me wondering. Is it the weather or something else? Do we hide from going out? Are we worried we will run into others? I don't know. But it makes me wonder. It is not easy to be a socialite. It takes effort to open ourselves up to others. We make ourselves venerable to the unknown. We put ourselves, good and bad, on open display for others to evaluate.
It is easy to hide behind the walls of our home, confined to our living rooms, entertained via television or computer. I have decided I need to take a ride on the wild side. I need to open myself up and see what I can see. Do you need to do the same? Think about it.
