Scripture Thought

1 Nephi 9: 6-3

I know I wrote them backwards.  There is a reason.  If you read from 6 to 3, it makes a little be more sense about what Nephi was, who it was, and how he applied this knowledge to his life.

In verse 6, Nephi realizes, "his own nothingness" that we read about later in the book.  As he contemplated all that the Lord has done, what he knows, and what he is capable of, Nephi understands that he should move forward in faith and trust that it will all work out.  Think about it.  They are living in tents.  They have left all their friends behind.  Everything that is familiar to them.  I am sure that there were times, they all questioned what was next.  Sometimes that feeling can be overwhelming.  It was and is at times like these that with Nephi, we need to realize, the Lord knows.  It may not make sense to us right now, but it will.  It might be tomorrow, next week, next semester, or even many, many years from now, but it will all make sense.

As we read in verse 5, the Lord has a purpose.  He wants Nephi to record certain things.  Nephi does not understand why, he just does it.  Then if we start to read the other direction, 5 to 6, Nephi reflects and contemplates while he is recording.  While doing so the Spirit whispers, teaches, and opens his mind to understanding.  What can we learn from this?  Think about it.

Verses 4 and 3 follow the same path.  Nephi is commanded to do something.  He is to record all the spiritual things of his ministry in the small plates.  Why, he does not know, but in due time the Lord will use them.  We have already talked about what it did for Nephi, now we see what it has done for us.  Through these records, we have a clearer picture of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We are blessed for Nephi's obedience.   We learn what it means to minister.  We are able to feel and know the strong witness of those of old.

What an amazing blessing we have.  We are give so much.  I, like Nephi, think it is important to reflect upon these gifts from God.  We need to recognize His hand in our lives and live accordingly.  Take a moment to look around.  Reflect, ponder, and record what the Lord has given you.  Not take it one step further and use what He has given you to help minister unto those who do not have as much, temporally, emotionally, and spiritually.  I promise you, it will be amazing in the end.
