Reason

I have learned a great deal from my children the past few days. I know that I was once their age, but I don't remember experiencing life as they describe it. There are several things that I can relate to, but not all. I just do my best to help them learn from my perspective and help them see things from theirs.

There seems to be no reason. There is no explanation of why they make the choices they make, they just do. Sometimes the choices they make are so spontaneous that when one looks back they have no idea what or why the choice was made.

Unfortunately, making the choice in the moment and then living the consequences later is not always fun. As we have discussed these choices and consequences, it has opened my eyes to several thing. I have started wondering where my reasoning's are and what they are. I wonder if I should be more diligent in my reasoning.

It has become very clear that one cannot force reason on to another. One can outline, demonstrate, and chart one's reasoning, but one cannot make another accept or follow that reasoning. It is a choice of the other to do so. It all comes down to the choice.

I have also learned that if we commit ourselves to a standard, value, or purpose, when we are called upon to make spontaneous choices, they will be founded in those standards, values, and purposes. Again the choice must be made.

Do we know what our purpose is? Do we believe in it and the standards of that purpose? Do we treat others as if they to are committed to our same values? Would we ask them to do anything that we would not be willing to do? Do those who we associate with allow us to remain committed to our standards, values, and purposes or do they seek to see us fall?

These are all important things to consider when reasoning. When we have to make a choice, they should all come into play.

Now finally, have you accepted the Lord in your life in such a way that your standards, values, and purposes are in line with his? Are we as committed to him as he is to us? What do we need to do to get there?
